haha. there are always people that are upset at elected officials for something--it kind of goes without saying. I tell ya, some of these people never cease to amaze me.

Have to agree that the no-statement STATEMENTS sure seem to indicate they are short and they know it. If they had their # securely in the bag I would think they would be out their to let the world ( or at least Omaha) know.

The petition drive to recall Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey ends today, and organizers aren't offering any clues as to whether their effort has been a success.

That's due, in part, to the fact that only a quarter of the 1,450 petitions that were distributed to volunteers to circulate had been returned as of Monday, said Recall Fahey co-chairman Ryan Chappelear.

The thing that strikes me is that, with very few exceptions, ncaa championships move around. Does anyone think that the team that wins the cws REALLY cares where they win? In the end its about winning and yes, Rosenblatt is special but only because teams win there. If for some reason the cws is played in OKC or Indy or Detroit or Orlando or Wichita, the teams that win will consider that stadium special.

Bottom line: Keep the cws in Omaha if you can. Anything else is extraneous gibberish.

The petition drive to force a recall election came up short today. Recall Fahey organizers said that they collected 8,202 signatures, which is less than the 21,734 that they needed.

Because the group fell short, the Douglas County Election Commission does not need to verify that the signatures are from registered voters who live in Omaha.

I'd mildly disagree with you on this. The players routinely talk about "The Road to Omaha", and how that's their goal since as long as they could remember.

On the flip side, you don't often hear anyone talking about "The Road to Rosenblatt".

yeah...8,202 is 0.019% of 430,000 people estimated to live in Omaha. Good job getting after it, Recallers. :sarcasm:

although they did get more than i thought they would its still aawesome that they didn't even come remotely close to it...also its quite funny listening to the people who were for the recall effort on the wowt.com website saying well....i can't afford to live here since the taxes are going to shot through the roof from fahey's follie haha its quite entertaining hearing them talk now that they have been publically humiliated in front of the whole city

Wow - not even 50% - not even 40% of what they needed - and this is before a notary checks their authenticity!
I would not have guessed that the signature count would have been so low - and you know the recall leaders already knew their numbers were not going to add up from day 7.

After seeing this result - and I know this is a stretch - but how does this reflect the desire for the silent majority (I hate to use that phrase - but it fits) in support of the downtown stadium? How will the undecided in the city council view this result and get off the fence instead of fearing the vocal minority? I see only one vote to the negative - only because he has to save face.

There were more people in Elkhorn before the annexation!

Honestly, that number is so low that either people really love fahey (I do), or the petitioners were a big joke(I think so)

Or a combination..

One thing for sure, I think we have been lucky to have Fahey as mayor..

My thoughts, upon returning from vacation and learning the petition drive failed sooooo miserably:

Ha!
Ha! Ha!
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Now let's move on....there is work to do to make this city bigger, bolder and better. Let's not dwell on ridiculing those who were behind this mini recall movement. There will always be nay-sayers and sticks-in-the-mud. The Omaha of tomorrow does not belong to them. It belongs to the rest of us!
