I've heard great things about him. The trick in a hotel like that is balancing the basic needs of a convention center while still maintaining a unique, high-quality restaurant. I definitely plan on checking it out once it's open.

Thanks for that info Anna. Some older hotels have great restaurants. I think of places I have stayed in like the Drake in Chicago and Brown Palace in Denver and their signature restaurants have great cuisine. I am trying to think of a signature hotel restaurant in Omaha and come up blank (I have yet to visit Magnolia since it reopened) - even in the past.

The Orleans Room at the Blackstone Hotel was, for decades, considered the best restaurant in Omaha. I took my senior prom date there in 1972.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

What is now the downtown Doubletree was originally a Hilton (built in the late 60's, I think). I can't remember the name of the restaurant on the top floor (I think it was called "Maxine's" when it was a Red Lion Inn), but it was a 'special occasion' place, and considered to be one of the best restaurants in the city. The Hilton chain (at least the corporate ones) were/are known for their restaurants. The new one (Liberty) next to the Qwest Center has a great menu and a good product, but it doesn't seem to attract many people from the community.

I sort of forgot this place existed, but stopped in for lunch yesterday. Food is good. Service was good. Fairly chill place to eat. It seems to get lots of compliments for having better than average hotel food. At some point they renamed it from "The Nines" to "The La Vista Nines." One of their biggest advertisement failings is the lack on an online menu. You have no idea what they serve until you get there (or rely on outdated photos uploaded to review websites).
