so i was telling my fiance about the new theater (she wasn't as impressed with it as i was, then again she doesn't get all bent out of shape the way i do

) and something i think will be really cool is that the theater should feel big. Honestly, i haven't been to a 4 story movie theater before and i think having floor to ceiling glass on the exterior will be awesome. The whole atmosphere is going to be cool as |expletive|.

Yep! I'm SO excited about being able to walk to a movie - well, other than one at the Dundee theater. This is going to be such an amazing thing for Midtown!

Construction Reaches New Level

Construction progress at Midtown Crossing has reached a new level – literally. Over the past two months, workers have continued building on the foundation of the middle condo building, finishing the garage, main level and first through third floors. Work is now beginning on the fourth level of the building, which is located on the west end of the development along 33rd Street.

Some of the other construction highlights at Midtown Crossing include:

•Foundations have been placed for both apartment buildings along Farnam Street and elevated concrete work is scheduled to begin soon

•Work has begun on the foundation for the garage that will be located along 33rd Street, just east of the Mutual of Omaha headquarters

•Farnam Street has been temporarily narrowed to one lane as heavy utility work for the development continues to take place. The process of repaving the main traffic lanes on Farnam Street will take place over the next two months

•The pre-cast panels for the building exterior are being fabricated offsite and are scheduled to be erected later this fall

"Right now we're doing a lot of the foundation work, which is hard to see from the street level," said Rob Zimmerman, Senior Pre-Construction Manager for the Weitz Company, the general contractor for Midtown Crossing. "A lot of the progress will become evident this fall and winter as we transition to more of the above-ground work and the development begins to take shape."

As of yesterday's drive home, the crane has been *ahem* erected, complete with boom. It's significantly shorter.

They're paving Farnam street to make it more than 1 lane again. Hopefully we will see some sidewalks soon so it's easier to take pictures?

Saturday about dinner time, A friend and I drove pass the Midtown Crossing @ Turner Park
Development on our way home. I took these pictures as we headed west on Farnam Street:

I need to get down an take a photo, there is 8 or 9 cranes on site now. Three Tower Cranes and 5 or 6 conventional cranes. What an impressive site.

They've added a 4th tower crane down near the church. The apartment building along this side is coming along quickly.
This crane cannot be seen from the webcam.

Fox 42 just did a story on Midtown Crossing. The model opened today in the M of O bank building.

Jeff Beals of Grow Omaha was also on the story.

Channel 6 had a good story on the project and model opening last night. It's on their web site today.

It's worth watching if you're interested in the project -- they got into the construction site to shoot some of the video, including a view downtown from the middle condo building.

Great video story. Wow, 400 new trees for Turner Park. Outstanding!

Also, I drove through the site on Farnam today and I just can't get over how impressive the scale of this is. This is honestly the kind of development you'd see in urban neighborhoods of D.C., Boston, or Chicago. Absolutely incredible. As I've said in the past, this is the SINGLE most important, exciting development ever to happen in Omaha.

I cannot agree more Streets, I'd say though that you have to give the Qwest instant credit as probably on of the single most game-face changers in the cities history (UP track will probably always be #1)... So far

With that said, the impact this development is bringing to this city is huge.. I cannot wait to see it.. If I remember right, there will be seven 9-story buildings after the whole thing is completed..

Back in June, when the Fairfield Inn in North Downtown had its official grand opening, some of the investors involved in that hotel mentioned they were negotiating on a hotel for Midtown Crossing, but the name of the hotel did not have a "W" in it. Of course things do change. But if the major user of such a hotel might be Mutual of Omaha, I can't really see a W hotel.

I just heard that the Midtown Crossing hotel announcement is out this morning....The hotel at Midtown Crossing will be an Element by W -- for some reason this forum's spell checker won't let me post the brand name. Element is their new extended stay hotel concept. One of Element's requirements is that all of their buildings be L E E D certified green buildings. Pretty cool, if you ask me.

Sounds like this one is a done deal -- unlike Wall Street Tower's Hotel reservation that was in the paper earlier this week.

Bring on the streetcar to bring these business travelers from the airport to the hotel. With MTC opening next year we're bound to hear more tenant announcements. It's inevitable.

With 132 rooms, will they be occupying one full building of the project??? If so, does anyone know which one? My guess would be the one that faces Dodge Street.
