So which is more unsettling:
The fact that gas climbed up over $4 a gallon when no one could afford to buy it because it was so expensive...
...or the fact that it fell below $2 a gallon because no one could afford to buy it because everyone is losing their job?

Think of these gas prices as the mysteriously receding water along an Indian Ocean beach...

"Motorists in Independence, Mo., on Friday said they were paying $1.37 for a gallon of gas."

After this summer I never thought we'd see it below $2/g again. I wouldn't get use to it though.

Why bail them out? Why not just buy Detroit?Stargazer wrote:You know... it struck me the other day... why the heck aren't the oil companies bailing Detroit out ??
The answer is simple:
Because they know the American taxpayer will (and what DTO said).
I am kind of curious to see if the oil company's profits fall by 66% along with the price of oil.

If the price keeps dropping, next thing you know the oil companies will be asking for a bailout! ...just think what kind of reception they would get on Capitol Hill and from the public. Now that would be fun to watch.Big E wrote:Why bail them out? I don't think it would be good for big oil to bailout the big 3...then they'd just be that much more obligated to keep making POS gas guzzlers.

Looks like prices are about bottomed out, it's been $1.55 for the past week in CB now, a few stations bumped it up to $1.57 after Turkey Day.

Explain this one to me (this morning's prices):
- Holiday on 13th and Pacific @ $1.59
- Infinite on 13th and Martha @ $1.84
- Valero on 13th and Vinton @ $1.59
For those of you unfamiliar with anything east of 144th, we're talking about a significantly trafficked route between I-80 and downtown, and a difference of about one mile.
I've never seen such a discrepancy in pricing in such close physical proximity in my life.

Any chance that the 1.84 price you saw was actually E85? I have seen a few stations in the last week with the prices around 1.59-1.69 and the E85 around 1.90. Guessing this is "old Stock" also, not guessing that this does not pencil out for the driver and the stations will be siting on this for a while or taking a loss.

i know you're kidding, but some people really think that. It's quite a stretch...if we were to ever go to a 3rd world status, it'd take a lot longer than a year of economic hardships, considering we'll be on an upswing and fine in a couple years.Stargazer wrote:Did I mention that third world status is in our future?

Probably to make up for the lost revenue over their company wide revocation of their liquor license.

You see Big E, it's due to the owner of the Infinite gas stations being something like the slum lord of gas station owners. I'll take the chicken enchilada.Big E wrote:And again, $1.49 at Valero on 13th and Vinton and $1.49 at Holiday on 13th and Pacific, and $1.84 at Infinite on 13th and Martha.

I was referring to the "freight" freight companies, like the ones that pick up and drop off pallets of stuff all day every day. Those guys are |expletive| thieves right now.DanielBeattyDA wrote:I think UPS/FedEx still have fuel surcharges for shipments.

$1.44 last night in CB.
And what's up with the rise in NE gas tax come January? Think the price comes down a little they can gouge everyone a little more?

I'm trying to remember what gas cost when I first started driving. I'm pretty sure it was over $1/gallon. Could we possibly flirt with sub dollar gasoline?

I remember filling up my 1983 Chevy Caprice Classic for less than $20 when I started driving in 1996. Gas was less than $.90 in Lincoln at that time.
