We're trying to get my dad to come visit us out here. One way to tempt him is with fishing, since it's a big hobby of his and he's a semi-pro ice fisherman. (You'd think visiting his children would be enough of a temptation.) So, anyway, where's some good fishing spots here in the Metro? He does ice (or hard water as I guess the kids are calling it these days) and regular liquid water fishing. Not fly fishing, just regular bassmasters type. Back home he usually catches Blue Gills and Crappies, though I'm not sure what they have out here and I'd guess he'd be willing to catch other types too. Any suggestions?

Most all the dam sites have decent fishing... I take my wife and son (I don't fish... but my wife has to have me remove them from the hooks) to Lake Zorinsky, Walnut Creek, Chalco... Two Rivers State Park is also good. Of course you'll need a permit.

Whierspan - Chalico Hills = On the dam at sunset with goldfish for catfish or if you have a boat and a depth finder there are 3 "hills"that form a triangle out in the middle for Bass

Zornski = Bluegill and Crappie under the bridge before a warm front.

Standing Bear = stocked with rainbow trout

2 Rivers State park = everything, just do your research for the lake you are in.

Just a short Drive is Summit lake up north of Fort Calhoun. Good fishing up there.

The ice is thick enough right now. Average is about 8" of clear Ice on most lakes right now.

3" = 1 person
4" = group of people
8" snowmobile

Lake Manawa is a pretty popular spot and larger than the other lakes mentioned here. Sometime shortly the Winterfest in CB should be having their ice fishing derby, complete with cash prizes.
