Aksarben Village (67th & Center)

It's going to be really exciting watching Aksarben Square come together this spring and summer!!!

I also noticed the concert stage/pavilion construction today, as well as the steel for BCBS.

In addition, I noticed a decorative landscaping wall going up between the obelisk and Center Street.

Signage is also up for Godfather's and Juice Stop in the "big building".

I didn't know Godfather's was opening up in there. Does this mean they will close their location at 74th and Pacific?

Aksarben Square is going to be an incredible, beautiful park. And I'm so happy to see that tower crane is all the way up!

The pointed cap piece for the obelisk is now on site waiting to be installed, probably tomorrow.

Also, check out the brick and masonry cladding going in on the base of the monument.

Yesterday on my way to the Spring in Spring Festival at Lauritzen Garden, I passed Aksarben Village and the Aksarben Square Obelisk under Construction. Top of the Obelisk are on the Ground at the left edge of the photo.

The pointy cap-piece of the obelisk is "clad", and presumably ready to be installed.

I also noticed a new bar/lounge with signage up and work going on inside getting ready to open.

Just a side note: I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the Scooter's on the south side of Center Street has been open for several weeks now.

They put the cap on the obelisk yesterday. Im waiting to see the finished product before I decide if I like the whole thing or not.

Cool Pics Streets! I just drove through there. I noticed the big tall sign thing is right in the middle of the road when you are heading south from UNO.

It is also right in the middle of the road when heading west on center street. They did a good job of placing it in the right spot.

I believe it is called an obelisk. And I like the looks of it, and wonder whether it will be illuminated internally or externally at night.

I bet there is a good chance it will be illuminated from inside. The blue panels put on the cap are translucent so i am assuming they did that for a reason. I am sure there will be some accent lighting on the outside also.

Looks like something you'd see at a civil war battlefield park.

Maybe they should have gone with a big Gormley sculptor like CB.

The rendering makes it look like a pencil, or a missile. I hope it looks better than that when it is turned on.

Maybe instead of an amphitheater, they could build a giant pyramid and a sphinx instead.

I do like the obelisk. Very unique and will add some character.

yeah, i don't know. I think maybe an all glass obelisk (thick glass, mind you) would have looked better if it were to be lit up. They could do it opaque, so that when the sun is shining, it would still be bright. I could be wrong. however, i think it may end up looking gawdy in the end.

The finished product will also only say Aksarben. The village part made it too much of an advertising sign, this way more of a neighborhood marker - a very large one.

Juice Stop is open for business and it appears that the Liv Lounge may be as well. I didn't go in, as I had my dog with me, but the TVs and outdoor music were on with a few people inside.

Looks like they have almost everything done on the park. A majority of the grass is in, the obelisk has Aksarben down each side, benches and other streetscape have been installed.

I've been driving through Elmwood and then Aksarben Place on my way to work in the mornings - this park is really nice. Benches, flowers, the crazy obelisk, it all looks very clean and welcoming. And the Juice Stop doesn't hurt either.

I heard that Liv Lounge is cool. Sort of retro feeling, very classy, complete with a zebra head on the wall. They have a fire pit but I'm not sure about a patio or outside seating.

horse sculpture: cool.

obelisk: should have shifted the square panels inwards so it didn't look like a messed up saw blade

Otherwise i think it looks to be quite an attractive area!

That horse sculpture looks much better than it did in it's previous location at the former ring of champions. They cleaned it up a bit.
