The building immediately to the west end of the site is a pile of rubble now.

They're moving on this, I hope.

I'm guessing if they're Frankie Payneing things that they're serious about construction.

If they were Frankie Payne-ing it, Nicola's and Maggie Moo's would be gone, too.

Don't get too excited about the demolition; it was probably just another OWH truck. :;):

Does anyone know which design they're going with? There's the one that's posted (in super poor quality) above, and there was one with a little more of the Old Market warehouse flair (which I liked).

I believe that they were required to go with the more boxy, Old Market look, rather than the one they originally proposed.

Saturday afternoon, after I visited the Septemberfest Grounds at Qwest Center Omaha Lot D, I drive past the site of new Residence Inn Hotel In the old Market and noticed all demolition debris have been removed. Also there is hole in the ground, mid-site, where one building was. Does any one know when the Construction begins?

I was not quick enough to take a picture. My Camera was not ready. My pictures would be similar to one the1wags Posted on June 22nd.

After months of nothing going on, there looks to be the start of some progress once again at this site. When I drove past there today, there was a backhoe as well as several construction vehicles parked within the fence. My guess is that this is probably the start of the excavating crew - attempting to get the foundation dug before the ground freezes.

An attempt that failed miserably. The backhoe is still in the same spot, now covered in snow and ice. But, there are workers vehicles parked inside the fence most days. Perhaps they are waiting on approval for some designs, or TIF, TAF, TARP or son of TARP funding approval. I am predicting an April groundbreaking.

Have it on pretty good authority (neighboring business owner) that this project is dead.

Reportedly a mere $3M will get you the Old Market Swimming Pool & Malarium.

This will likely be the second stinkiest hole in the Old Market by June.

This is such a premier lot in the old market I don't think it will take long to find a new project. May be they can lure in another hotel.

I don't get how a hotel project can fail. It's not like you have to get a certain number of pre sales like a condo building. Either you have the financing lined up or not. With that location, I don't see how a bank could get leery of it being a potentially bad location or whatever would cause a bank to back out.

I am not sure either, however may be the company has other outstanding debt they need to take care of first? The travel industry is way down, may be they look at the number of hotels in a designated area and judge off of that.

Yeah I could see that or if a particular brand is really hurting and calls off expansion plans. Was this to be a franchise or corporate owned location?

I am not sure either, the property owner is listed as

OLD MARKET HOTEL ASSOCIATES LLC
11506 NICHOLAS ST #200
OMAHA NE 68154-0000

I am not sure how to track down LLC information, I know there is a way.

My boss knows a person that was involved with the project. He said several of the investors pulled out, likely due to their losses in the stock market crash or something.

Has anybody heard anything new about this hole in the ground that continues to take up 12-14 parking spots (probably more) from people in the old market?

New money is coming into this project but it is shrinking in size. Plans are supposed to be in for permits this summer.

The other morning when I went out for a walk, someone was out wandering the site while another worker was power washing and moving the equipment. Even if on a smaller scale, it would be great to see this project get underway.

Yes, even if it were scaled down to three or four stories, this is still a fantastic infill opportunity.

Driving down Jackson this morning and saw a nice colorful sign on the fence that said something like, "Future home of Mariott Residence Inn." Looks like funding has picked back up.

The rendering at the construction site is the exact same as we have seen before, not scaled back in any way. Do you think the project is a go as originally planned?

They either had the sign before & didnt want to waste it or they raised enough money to pay for the sign. :)

I saw the sign (Ace of Base?) yesterday, too. It's definitely a new sign, and the design as we knew it has not changed. This is a pretty great development. I'm so glad this project is alive, and hopefully ready to move forward.

Looks one floor shorted but I'll still take it. Truly glad they are going more brick and not mixing that ugly tan siding |expletive| into the building. They did that way to much with Mid Town Crossing and it makes those buildings look like they are from the suburbs.

I'll be damned, it IS a floor shorter. And I'll take it, too.

I hope they use actual bricks in the construction, instead of the cheep looking brick veneer.

The Old Market may require that in their design standards. See the new extension on the P.E. Iler building.

That city block is not located within the locally designated Old Market Historic District and therefore would not be subject to Landmark Comm. review. The P.E. Iler building used real width brick for a number a reasons - its in a local district - it is a historic tax credit project - and its Prochaska's building and I am sure that he wanted quality materials. Now that I said that I am surely the negative comments about "how loooonnnggg this project is taking" and "if I were a property owner I would 'get r done' as fast as I could put on my Husker jersey" will start rolling in. Guys (and Gals), prove me wrong.

These last comments don't make any sense to me.

Anyway, I didn't realize it was outside the OM historic district.

Regardless, I do hope they use quality building materials, as I do for any project.
