I was sent this link to some very cool shots of the aftermath of the ice-storm. Perhaps this has already made the rounds but here it is anyway.

THis really adds to the detail of what they are dealing with. I wanted to say NICE WORK by whoever did this but I do not think this should be used in reference to this storm for the sake of the people living in the areas hit. Anyway, nice coverage by someone.

Several pages of very cool pics, indeed. His name is Mike and he's a hobbyist storm chaser... that's all I know about the guy.
Rather than try to do the impossible and top his pics, I'll just offer a few from different circumstances. Some from my front yard, some from around town and this first one over by Chapman on our way home Monday evening.

These next two were also from Monday evening, after we had cleared out a big limb that came down from another tree in the front yard.

The remaining pics came from Wednesday, when the ice was STILL on the trees and plants. Took these shots before the thaw finally came and broke everything loose.

December ice storm price tag: $205 million
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=2 ... id=2369090
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=2 ... id=2369090
The price tag for Nebraska's ice storm damage, while substantial, will not be quite as high as originally thought.
The revised estimate for damage is $205 million, said Jim Bunstock of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.
Officials were staggered by the extent of damage in the days and weeks following the two December storms, the first of which hit Dec. 20. They feared costs could reach $230 million to $240 million.
The federal government will pay about 75 percent of the recovery costs, with the balance from local sources. Most of the local share will come from Nebraska public power districts.
This week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent $109 million to Nebraska for the cleanup effort, said U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith, R-Neb.

Holy |expletive|. Amazing sequence of images. What had me floored was the lights racing the wrong way from the truck in the posted image. I didn't think camera flash could be so effective from so far away, and why he would use a camera flash for fill light anyway. He has this explanation on his site:
Ahhhh. That make sense, and makes the image that much more freakin unbelievable if you stop & think about it.Trying to get lightning now as light lowers further, before the storm overtakes me. I saw this one later and was like, how did that happen to the semi. Light streaks because it is moving obviously. Truck itself should have been transparent like the front looks to the left. A lightning flash had to illuminate it at the start of the exposure.

several of the pictures show a green sky, including the picture above. I have never seen that before. Does that have something to do with the camera or photo editing or did the sky actually turn that color?

More precisely, the light refracting through the hail gives the sky the green hue. At least that's the leading theory of atmospheric scientists....
