It was announced on Unsportsmanlike Conduct today that 1620 is going to shorten Colin Cowherd's show to two hours, and put Matt Schick and Nick Bahe on from 9-12 in the morning. Apparently they didn't learn anything about local overkill from the failed BS590 experiment, and not to mention the fact that Schick has been horrible when he fills in on USC.

Just a terrible decision all around IMO, and another example of some moron program director making changes just for the sake of making them.

I'm going with the opposite. I can only take so much of the national stuff. It'll be interesting to see how the national show does against Unsportsmanlike Conduct from 2-6.

Yes. The moron who basically got his |expletive| handed to him in the national media by a legit journalist, Adam Schefter.

Nick Athan might seriously be one of the biggest jokes of a sports journalist I've ever seen, and WPI is a huge joke as well. Also, Athan's 2nd in command, a kid named Clayton Wendler, posts on one of the Bronco boards I do. That kid is a grade A douchebag.

I've heard Cowherd, and I've heard Schick.

I'll happily listen to Matt Schick, at least during football season. I figure there'll be some Creighton talk during hoops season, which as long as it's managed, I probably can handle.

So long as Creighton gets more basketball talk than Slingblade, then we'll call it fair.

Why be original when the description is so apt? Say what you will about the idiot from Boston, he got that one right. Ole' Doc is the last high-profile remnant of the Smiley Pete reign in Lincoln, and he's a freakin embarrassment.

Assuming you are referring to Doc Sadler. If so, hiring Sadler was the ONLY thing Steve Pederson did right during his final four years in Lincoln. Embarrassment? I assume you're referring to his periodic tweaks of hyperactive, insecure people who jumped onto the Creighton bandwagon in recent years.

He went 8-8 in the Big 12 last year with the SHORTEST team in the NCAA. He is viewed by other Big 12 coaches and media as one of the best in the conference. His recruiting needs to definitely improve but as far as coaching goes I don't think anyone is a better fit for NU.

OmahaBen is clearly not a NU basketball fan. NU fans love Sadler. I am one of them. Agree with Mike, this was the best thing Steve P did while he was here.

Cowherd's ratings weren't very good and two hours of him is plenty. Schick actually has quite a good following and I think he's got some talent, we'll see how he pans out. I would certainly expect there to be a Bluejay skew on the show. Funny thing is, had Perrault not been so petty and juvenile towards 1620, he'd probably be working for them, not that he's concerned about that now.

I think it's a good move, and the more local the better.

they might as well change the name 1620 the zone to 1620 the husker.
Husker talk pays the bills.

And in USC's defense, they do a LOT of national stories as well, but yes, the certainly cater to the Huskers.

ESPN 1480 switching to oldies music
JEFF KORBELIK / Lincoln Journal Star wrote:Three Eagles Communication has dropped sports talk in favor of oldies music at Lincoln radio station KLMS 1480 AM less than two weeks before the Super Bowl. KLMS has been a sports talk station -- Lincoln's only one -- since 1997 and an ESPN affiliate since 2000.

NRG Media-owned station KLIN (1400 AM) is now the only station in Lincoln with any sports talk programming. KLIN is part of the IMG Husker Sports Radio Network and carries "Sports Nightly," the weeknight sports talk show focused on University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletics.

At least we have Sports radio in Omaha.

Well - to be fair - the Lincoln Journal Stars' article does mention both 1620 and 590 by name.
I used to be able to listen to sports radio from Omaha to North Platte on I-80,
590 doesn't go as far as they think.

I think Radio signals vary from time to time. I got Z92 in Hastings on a Sunday morning, but lost it just past Lincoln on a Friday.. Someone told me that on the right night you can get KFAB in Texas.

However, after sunset, changes in the ionosphere cause AM signals to travel by skywave, enabling AM radio stations to be heard much farther from their point of origin than is normal during the day. This phenomenon can be easily observed by scanning an AM radio dial at night.

And FCC regulations. Some (many?) stations have to direct their feeds during the day, but can turn up the power in all directions at night. KFAB's a 50,000 watt "blowtorch" that can be heard in Canada on some nights. Likewise it's not unheard of to pick-up KOA out of Denver here in Omaha.

increased power or not, for a given wattage you can be heard a long ways away, or not even in the next state depending on atmospheric conditions.

1620 is losing their affliation with ESPN and switching to Fox Sports while Big Sports 590 is picking up ESPN and using their shows and personalities.

1620 has released their new schedule and looks like this
8-11 Schick and Nick
11-2 Jim Rome
2-6 Kevin and Michele
Petros and Money
J.T. The Brick

590 has not released their schedule yet but I expect it to look like this.
Mike and Mike in the morning
Cowherd in the Afternoon
Whatever ESPN show uses as their afternoon show.
Brian Kenney in the Evening
Along with Creighton basketball and the local hour shows they have been using to fill time.

I think this is a win win for both stations. 590 gets added respectability with ESPN and some good evening shows and weekend shows. 1620 gets a 6 hour morning/afternoon time slot that will kill (and for some people Kevin and Michele). Schick and Nick and Rome will be a great 1-2 punch and both shows are very similar so they will compliment each other nicely.

From a personal standpoint it always sucked having to turn back and forth between Schick and Nick and Rome in the 11 hour so this is great. Otherwise I still won't listen to Kevin and Michele and the Garbage they put on the air and mostly keep the dial on 590 with the exception of 8-2

Love the Kevin and Mike'l show. Did I hear that Kevin is doing the Creighton game this week? If so, that's funny.

That Petros show at night is a fiasco.

Hopefully 590 is still a part of the Royals Radio Network.

Kugler is great, at least as a play by play guy, which is why he gets national gigs doing that. His sidekicks (first Bob, now Mike'l) have both sucked hard.

Have not heard anything about the Royals on 590. I also hope they didn't drop them like they did the Chiefs, but then again 590 dropped the Chiefs this year and look what happened so maybe we want 590 to drop the Royals.

I believe I heard 1620 has picked up more Cubs games now, not like in the past where you will get maybe 20 Cubs games on 1620 then some on 1180 then some won't even be broadcast in Omaha.

As for Kevin doing the game on Wednesday I'm sure he won't even mention it on USC on Wednesday or Thursday even though he will be right there, untill Michele makes a Creighton joke cause he hates Creighton and the Jesuits for some reason.

On another side note it will pretty much be Racer night at the Jays game with Les coaching for Bradley and Kevin doing the play by play. They should have done the dollar beer night tomorrow to give it that Racer feel.

Mike'l went to a School that was a rival of the Jesuits. Its basically like Mike'l is a Yankee Fan and Creighton is the Red Sox.

Surprising, I thought 1620 had a ban on talking about Creighton basketball, except for Bahe's one hour show on Monday night. They will tell you what Bo had for lunch the past 5 days though.

There is no ban on talking Creighton basketball on 1620. It's just that, well, not many people who listen to 1620 care about Creighton basketball. Some of that is because Nebraska (and Omaha) cares more about football. Some of that is because the Creighton fans used to listen to 590 in the past when they actually had local shows, and still harbor resentment over the fact that 590 couldn't survive with Creighton talk.
