The Omaha Nighthawks - UFL Football
Schedule released
Omaha's UFL schedule
Week 1: Bye
Week 2: Hartford, Friday Sept. 24
Week 3: Sacramento, Saturday Oct. 2 (Husker bye week)
Week 4: at Las Vegas, Oct. 8
Week 5: at Hartford, Oct. 16
Week 6: Bye
Week 7: Las Vegas, Thursday Oct. 28
Week 8: at Florida, Nov. 5
Week 9: at Sacramento, Nov. 13
Week 10: Florida, Friday Nov. 19
This might be the best schedule the UFL could have come up with. Two games early when the weather is going to be decent. A Thursday night game during the traditional teachers conference. (I would have tried Friday night though...)
The season finale could be a toughie. A night game the week before Thanksgiving, which I think is also the night for the state class A football championship. Also, UNO is playing North Dakota in hockey at the Qwest Center that night IIRC.
It looks like the UFL didn't add a sixth team this season.

The Thursday night game is probably due to Versus having the Thursday night national telecast. So it looks like Omaha will have at least one game on Versus. The rest will be on HDNet.HskrFanMike wrote:Schedule released

Very strategic home schedule. Only home Saturday is during a Husker bye week. This actually might do pretty well. I saw on another site that there were over 9,000 different name suggestions submitted, not to mention that many of them got a substantial amount of votes. I'm pretty optimistic about the whole thing.

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office the UFL has trademarked the "Omaha Nighthawks" (April 29).

Hmmm, I wonder what the Blackhawks (Iowa, not Chicago) think of that?Omababe wrote:Fresh from the Rumour Mill:nebugeater wrote:Is this selected or one of the suggestions since it is on a forum link?

Jon Nyatawa WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:Omaha's new professional football squad finally has a nickname, and maybe a rudimentary team-wide philosophy to go along with it.
You may now call them the Nighthawks.
The United Football League officially announced the team name Wednesday afternoon, roughly 3½ weeks after unveiling Omaha as the league's fifth franchise.
A nighthawk is most commonly known as a medium-sized bird that hunts flying insects at dusk and dawn. And actually, some refer to those covert winged predators as Bugeaters, one of the original nicknames for the Nebraska Cornhusker football team.
The U.S. Air Force's F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter jet draws its name from the preying bird, likely because of the subtle attack method similarities.
Omaha coach Jeff Jagodzinski has already copied and pasted a picture of the aircraft to his personal computer's background screen. He's ready to start surprising people.

Uh, possibly stupid question here ...
Are nighthawks indigenous to the Omaha area? I don't know, I'm not an ornithologist.

The UFL guy that was interviewed on one of the shows yesterday ( maybe Becka on KFAB) said there was a military tie. I was only 1/2 hearing what they were saying but sounds like one of the stealthy planes.
When I google image search I get this.

Actually, the Common Nighthawk ranges from Canada all the way to Panama. So yes, they are in the Omaha area and I've seen them. They do winter in South America like many other migratory North American birds.
The name can work two fold as the bird as well as the F-117 stealth fighter/bomber, which the airforce has retired in favor of the F-22.

Yes, its as if the technology is outdated now before they're used in combat, which reminds me of having to buy a new computer, tv, and cell phone every couple of years.

And it was one of the first military programs which congress openly admitted we couldn't afford. I think we still ended up ordering 200 or so, though, which is more working fighter jets than 90% of countries in this world possess.nebport5 wrote:S33 wrote:Which has been discontinued for the F35 JSF :)nebport5 wrote:which the airforce has retired in favor of the F-22.

Nighthawk fits four out of four for Omaha:
A bird that eats bugs (nickname from the late 1800's is the bugeater)..
A rancher that watches his livestock at night from predators..
Somebody who enjoys the nightlife in a city..
The fighter jet mentioned that has been recently retired, but still at SAC (from what I'm told)

Bought season tickets today for the Mrs. and I on about the 40 yard line in Section B. Need to work on my tailgating set up between now and this fall. Let the games begin.
BTW, the password for the promotional code on Ticketmaster is nighthawks. This allows you to buy tickets now before ticket sales are open to the public in general on Monday the 24th.

"Convenient" for Ticketmaster is all I can understand. I do think it changes based on the base ticket price level.

So where does the 40 yard line put you?... like over the home/visitor dugouts?
So ignoring their ripping off Brad's photo... am I to understand that we're going to host the UFL championship game as well??

Oh wow... I didn't see the proposed orientation. So we can actually fit that sucker end to end running along the first base line.

The UFL website was bragging up on Omaha today because we sold 2,000 season tickets the first day of sales. Fans from the league's other cities were taking notice on the UFLAccess board today. What makes this even more impressive is that you could not order tickets unless you had a promotional code the first day. I nosed around until I found the promotional code. Wasn't too hard to find. Fact remains though that today, May 24 was listed on sight as first day for sales if you were trying last week without the promotional code.
