Super disappointing in terms of which retailer it is, but still a "win" because it is an actual retailer.

People will be able to shop here and then go right over to Parliament Pub.

I agree on both counts.

I also do share the opinions that this should be a stepping stone to more (hopefully better) retail and clothing. I can only hope that any other clothing or shopping outlet will be better than this. If this does fail, does that improve or decrease the chances to get a store that I would actually shop at?

Slightly off-topic, but at least the people I've seen at Midtown Cinema have generally been dressed classier than "Couture |expletive|" or whatever would sell them. It's my impression that it feels more like a sophisticated night out rather than just slouching into a sticky seat at the typical multiplex. I have yet to see either $100 graffiti T-shirts or $200 jeans in the condition beyond when I throw them out. Admittedly though, I'd rather see them than the slobs in sweatpants and gym shorts that I've seen in aforementioned multiplexes.

Stopped by the mall today near work to pick up a B-Day card and I popped in to check out R.O.C.. I think they've toned down the 'Jersey' look for the Washington market (we're kinda' stuffy, clothing-wise--- the R.O.C. here offers more trendy dress shirts and distressed designer jeans than billboard type t-shirts with gold spangly thingies all over them), but I think it's still a very niche-y market they're targeting. The mall was very busy, but I was the only person in the store the entire time I was there. The shirt I actually liked was made from a very thin synthetic fabric and cost $108---they seemed to have a lot of shirts for $108 (?). I don't know many 20-somethings (even here) who have that kind of disposable income, especially in today's economy. It's the kind of bling-y clothing you'd see on children of the wealthy in large European cities, and maybe in NYC. The only people I've seen wearing this type of clothing here are the children of wealthy immigrants, mostly Middle-Eastern and European. Lots of eye-roll inducing stuff.

Tried Ingredient today. (No Ingredient-specific thread?)

Cafeteria style, which kind of disappointed me, but will probably work well for the area being close to so many walkable jobs. Good menu selections. I had the Salmon BST sandwich (bacon, spinach, tomato and avocado... apparently the A for avocado doesn't get a mention in the title). Served on an un-seasoned kind of ciabatta roll. Pretty OK... it was good, but it looked like it had a lot more going on than it did flavor-wise. Great place to eat with your eyes. Veyr fresh ingredients.

Other half had a chicken-apple sausage hoagie thing with peppers and onions and some sort of spicy marinara-ish sauce. It was pretty damn good.

Table next to us had falafels, and said they were as good as but different from Amsterdam's. Many other salad, sandwich and pizza options that all sounded really good.

Two sandwiches, two drinks and a bag of chips was $24-something. I thought that was pretty high when I ordered but by the time I got done eating I was stuffed, which isn't easy to do with a salmon sandwich.

Absolutely great addition to the area, and will definitely try it again when in the able. Probably wouldn't make it a destination stop, but I honestly don't think they are attempting to attract the drive-up crowd.

My girlfriend and I tried it last night (and yes, Bill, I'm pretty sure I saw you there :;): ).

We shared two of their pizzas. We did the "Thai Pie", and created our own. If you like, they allow you to submit your creation and they might feature it on their chalk board.

We submitted ours because it was |expletive| delicious.

We called it "The Marcy" in honor of our street. It had roasted garlic oil for sauce, portobello muchrooms, caramelized balsamic onions, and roma tomatoes and topped with fontina cheese (in addition to the three-cheese blend that comes with it).

It was delectable.

We enjoyed our experience and will go back for more.

Does anyone know when MTC is supposed to give up that "construction lane" on Dodge St? I was perfectly understanding when they were pouring concrete for the building, were doing facade and had a bunch of stuff that needed to be out in that lane. I don't think I've seen a piece of construction equipment in that lane for several weeks, and the building facade for the hotel is essentially complete. What little there is left appears to be ground floor window moldings and the such, that could easily be taken care of from the sidewalk.

Its been so long since we've had the full 5 lanes on Dodge in this area, I think people are just used to the backups, but it drives me nuts that the city doesn't demand construction companies give up the blocked off streets as soon as physically possible.

As of a couple days ago, they still had an aerial lift in that lane to finish some small details of the facade above what will be Wholner's I saw gaps between spandrel panels that still need to be covered, but it didn't look like it should take too long. I would expect they'll have it cleared out and open up the lane soon. Not that I'm excited about it; just one more deadly high-velocity lane to try and cross.

If playing chicken with cars is your thing, sure. I usually stick to crossing at streets with a traffic signal, and even then you have to watch for the couple cars that fly through on a red light.

My wife and I went to Parliament Pub for the first time Saturday night. It wasn't quite as bad as I expected, although I'm pretty sure I saw guys in $200-plus jeans and T-shirt outfits. I also wasn't sure if I should be nervous or assured by the tough-looking bouncer at the door. I suppose he's there in case Snookie shows up. We eventually left and went to Crescent Moon, though. I will admit I feel a lot more comfortable there.

I have had my Photography display set up 3 times now. I think the amount of "farmers market" items will pick up as the weeks go on. Besides the produce, they have a had a cheese place, a bbq place, cupcake island (I think they are done for the year now), 3 dog bakery, and like Nativeomahan said lots of art and crafts (photos, painter, metal work, wood work, country crafts, jewelry).

Idk about anyone else, but I've got a freakish garden this year. Already picked broccoli, cucumbers, tomatoes, egg plant, dill, strawberries, you name it.

I've been to Ingredient twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. I had a wonderful pizza for dinner but my favorite is breakfast.
The sourdough bread that came with my omelet was wonderful as were the breakfast potatoes.

I also like not having to wait for a check.

we took a stroll through the park tonight and around the whole area. Nice. I'm glad to see that the developments are happening throughout, instead of just one portion of midtown. I was also almost shocked to see how many people were walking dogs; we counted about 9, and we were there for about half an hour. I'd love to live there.

BTW, 3 hour free parking in the garage is niiiice: the meter-reader handed out 5 or 6 tickets right before the 6pm cut off.

I noticed the other day when I had a meeting at MTC that Délice construction was well under way, but I spaced it off. It looked like they already that the finishes going in. The OWH article says opening the 9th, a month from today.

Simply can't imagine that the rest of these condo units aren't going to go apartments at least for the near to mid term.

Not that I don't think the rest of the development is going to be a success, but I would be shocked if there weren't some residency promises or assumptions in the lease agreements to the restaurant/retail tenants that aren't anywhere near being met yet. Developer has to be feeling some heat from the current business tenants.

the picture on the front page of the site is awesome. Also, the photos they have on the site for the apartments vs the condos show the condos in a much better light. Not that the apartments look like |expletive|, but the finishes just look better. That'd make for some expensive apartments if they did have to make the adjustment...
