Simply can't imagine that the rest of these condo units aren't going to go apartments at least for the near to mid term.

Not that I don't think the rest of the development is going to be a success, but I would be shocked if there weren't some residency promises or assumptions in the lease agreements to the restaurant/retail tenants that aren't anywhere near being met yet. Developer has to be feeling some heat from the current business tenants.

I hope someone takes note and builds some cool, modern, mixed-use, apartment high-rises in the area. Maybe even Mutual. I volunteer my company to brand them! I think there is a high demand in this area for that product.
I was one of the first residents of the MTC apartments, and while the finishes aren't as nice as the condos, they have more attention to detail than most apartments I've seen. The buildings themselves are solid as |expletive|. All steel beams (even internal walls), thick walls... I have NEVER heard my neighbors and the windows are of great quality and block out almost all sound and they are huge. The balconies are small, so mostly we just use ours for potted plants and for the dog to take naps in the sun. If you ever drive by on Farnam across from the cinema, the balcony with all the plants.... that would be me, wave to Suki.

Saturday's Grow Omaha Radio Program was all about Midtown Crossing

I think it was mentioned in that other thread that "The Afternoon" will be coming to Midtown. They also said that the Apartments were 100% leased with 40+/-people on a waiting list. Retail space is about 75% full. All currently signed retail and the hotel will be open by November. They also interviewed people From Loft 610, East Campus Realty, Midtown Crossing, Three Dog Bakery, and the afternoon.

Its great to see another locally owned place (the afternoon) joining midtown crossing.

Wholner's will open in End of September or Early October. Molly said the construction team did an "amazing job".

I'm really been amazed how popular the apartments are. I expected them to stay at a pretty high occupancy, but 40 people on a waiting list is crazy! The fact that they are leased out when there are plenty of nearby rentals for half the price really shows the demand for high-quality, vibrant communities like it.

Délice Reopens September 2, in Midtown Crossing

Omaha, Neb. -- August 25, 2010 – The much anticipated reopening of Délice
European Bakery and Café will be at 7 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, according to
owners John and Karen Tollinger. The popular eatery, formerly in the Old
Market, is now at 3201 Farnam Street in Midtown Crossing at Turner Park.

The new facility is 2,500 square feet and will seat approximately 60
persons inside with room for another 30 in the outdoor seating area.
Délice’s hours will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to
11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 a.m. to 6 pm. Sunday.

Holly Engdahl, Patrick and Sandi McDermott purchased Délice in 1998 at 12th
and Howard. Délice originally opened in the Old Market in 1988, and closed
at that location in June 2009. John and Karen Tollinger purchased Délice
from the McDermotts and have since relocated.

Délice will have a new look and feel, but the menu will be the same as it
was in the Old Market, with the addition of a few new items, according to
John Tollinger.

“Heidi Schlicht is returning as pastry chef, and, in fact, you will be
waited on by many of the same staff in Délice at Midtown as you saw in the
Old Market,” added Karen Tollinger. Former owners, Engdahl and McDermott,
are assisting the Tollingers with the transition.

“We’re looking forward to greeting the faithful Délice customers at this
new location,” McDermott said. “We have a scrapbook of pictures and
remembrances from the old location that we’ve brought with us. But we’re
also excited to help John and Karen make new friends in this location.”

My wife and I went there last night for some dessert and coffee. We were impressed; the desserts were excellent, and the coffee was both good and reasonably priced. We're excited it's open now, as we've lamented the fact that there wasn't a coffee shop in our part of Midtown that was open late or on the weekends.

The furniture and interior design is very warm and welcoming. The fireplace will make it very cozy in the winter and counteract the cold expanses of glass.

Crave is training the kitchen staff. I heard the restaurant is done and front of the house staff starts training tomorrow.
Cantina Loredo is very close. Sign is up, tables and chairs are in, looks like they are in the decorating phase.

Wohlner’s Comes Home to Midtown, Opens its Doors for Business Tomorrow

Omaha, Neb - It’s official. Wohlner’s Midtown Market and Deli returns

to midtown tomorrow opening its doors for business at 7 am. An Omaha

original, Wohlner’s is on schedule to bring its brand of quality, service

and convenience to Midtown Crossing, Omaha’s boldest and most progressive

urban development. Wohlner’s Midtown Market and Deli, located on the

southeast corner of 33rd and Dodge, will be open Thursday from 7 am to 9

pm. “We’re ecstatic this day has finally arrived,” said proprietor Mike

Schwartz. Wohlner’s Midtown Market and Deli occupies 16,200-square-feet

on the ground floor of the Element by Westin hotel building now under

construction at 33rd and Dodge streets. The full-service store features a

complete selection of groceries, fresh produce and sundries; the finest

meats cut and wrapped by onsite butchers; a take-out deli with hot prepared

foods; and an upscale wine/beer/spirits department. “An urban grocery market

was a key part of our plans from the very beginning. When we articulated

our grocery vision – an upscale, service-oriented market – we were

essentially describing Wohlner’s. They were our first choice from the

beginning and are a terrific addition to Midtown Crossing and a great

resource for the entire Midtown community,” said Molly Skold, marketing

director of East Campus Realty, the Mutual of Omaha subsidiary that owns

the Midtown Crossing development. “This is a great day for Midtown

Crossing,” Skold added. Wohlner’s is just one of several Midtown

Crossing tenants opening this fall. Last week, Callahan Financial Planning

opened its doors along with Three Dog Bakery. CRAVE and Cantina Laredo will

open in mid-October. Within the next two months, Midtown Crossing will

welcome Blanc Burgers + Bottles, Element Hotel, and The Afternoon and The

Grey Plume. Schwartz said he is thrilled with the way Midtown Crossing is

blossoming. “It’s so exciting,” he said. “It’s just a fun place to be. The

energy and excitement here is thrilling.” Tomorrow’s opening will represent

a homecoming of sorts for Wohlner’s. Schwartz’s grandfather opened the

original store in 1918 just a few blocks from Midtown Crossing at 33rd and

California Sts. The store moved to 5205 Leavenworth St. in the mid-1930s

and stayed there until a move to the Aksarben Village development in 2008.

Wohlner’s Midtown Grocery and Deli will be Schwartz’s second location. “I

believe in Midtown – both of my stores are in Midtown,” said Schwartz. “The

Midtown Crossing store perfectly compliments our Aksarben location and

gives us excellent coverage of Midtown Omaha.”

Wohlner’s will have ample, free parking in the garage on 33rd Street

immediately adjacent to the store. A Grand Opening celebration is scheduled

for mid- November.

Paige Francis, vice president of global marketing for Element and other Starwood brands, said Omaha was the right place to enter the Midwest market because of the city's development. This is the eighth Element hotel, and New York's Times Square will have the ninth when it opens in December.

I didn't realize how impressive getting a hotel like Element really was for MTC. The rest of the article gives some great details about the hotel.

Midtown Crossing Expands Popular, Free Shuttle Service

Midtown Crossing, Omaha’s unprecedented urban development, is expanding and
enhancing its popular weekend shuttle service with the addition of a second
free shuttle.

“Sports fans, this one’s really for you, a convenient and cost-effective
way to get to Rosenblatt Stadium for any Nighthawks home game or to the
Qwest Center for Creighton men’s basketball or UNO hockey,” said Molly
Skold, marketing director for East Campus Realty, LLC, the Mutual of Omaha
subsidiary that owns Midtown Crossing.

· The game night shuttle runs a continuous loop from Midtown Crossing
to Rosenblatt Stadium (Nighthawks) or the Qwest Center (Creighton/UNO)
approximately every 15-30 minutes.
· Service begins two hours prior to every home game and ends 90 minutes
after the game ends.
· To catch a ride, simply park in one of Midtown Crossing’s two garages
(first three hours free), and pick up the specially-marked shuttle at 31st
and Farnam St. next to the MAT stop.

“Why fight for parking or pay expensive parking fees when you don’t have
to?” asked Skold.

The new shuttle complements Midtown Crossing’s established, free event
shuttle which continues to run:
· Every Friday and Saturday night with service from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.

· Thursday evenings during Jazz on the Green from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The event shuttle route includes the following pick-up/drop-off locations:

Strangely, the Blanc Burgers opening seems to be delayed until January. Wonder what the issue was here, as they appear to be fully built out and ready to go for the last month or so. Just a guess, but maybe liquor license issues?

Also, Cold Stone/Rocky Mountain is now projecting an "early 2011" opening.

Speaking of Verison, If you go to the store on 72 and dodge and there is a huge line like usual, go down to midtown, its only an extra 5 min drive and there is never a line. I usually see more employees than customers.
