If you took out all of the promotional stuff at most theaters they would look empty too.

Later renderings feature more detail and color splash and will be posted soon.

The 'Control Room' next to the Box Office is the heartbeat of the complex and is the first of its kind that we know of. The design of the complex eliminated the Projection Booth/Mezzanine and all controls are in this room. When complete the 'Control Room' will be branded with our technology and projection system providers including a lot of monitors and lighting effects.

The 'Clean' lines are by design and we hope set a new standard for the market.

I really like how they realize it doesn't have to look like outer space or at a rave(get it!) to go to the movies.

They are starting to put glass up on the DLR building, the blue cross building almost has all the glass installed, and the zone 5 has started with the brick.

I will verify but I think there are approximately 225 stalls in the surface lot. Future development shows this going vertical in future phases.

What are they planning on putting in the large dirt fields that are between the new developments and the UNO housing units. They seem to be doing a lot more work there recently. Is there a map somewhere that I could see what all the plans are?

Not sure how current that map is. Doesn't have the correct configuration for DLR, Zone 5 doesn't look like what is actually being built out there. The Map looks, good, but the real zone 5 looks to be in a sea of parking.

I drove by today and that is a pretty big disappointment. I was hoping for another parking garage.

It looks like instead of the parking garage, they went with surface parking. But that's a lot less parking than a garage would have, so I don't know.

Am I crazy or did I recall that some of the parking for a lot of the project would be built initially as lots then converted to garages as the neighborhood began to build out more?

Hopefully that would be the case here.

Also, we will be at the Summer Concert Series at Stinson Park on Saturday night and Farmer's Market Sunday registering people for a VIP Movie Pass valid for Free Movies for an entire year for 2 as well as some weekly prizes including movie posters etc. In addition we have some sample seats and cool give-a-ways.

I drove through Aksarben Village today and the DLR building looks great, all the glass is in and the movie theater has all the clad on it. which looks really good! They did quite a bit of dirt work in the field between DLR and the hotel. whats suppose to go there?

I am sure the DLR building will look fantastic when it is finished, however the east side looks funny at the moment. Its a solid wall of dark purple brick. It has a definite retro feel to it like the dark brick on the twin towers near mutual.

From the site plan I came across today, the parking for Zone 5 will be surface parking temporarily, until the future condos and apartments are built around the lot.

Owner Bill Barstow said his Aksarben Cinema, which opens next Friday, departs from traditional theater conventions in both design and function.

Excited for this I won't have to drive all the way out to Westroads anymore.

I think the theater will complement Midtown cinema well. It's similar, yet different enough that they aren't quite competing for the same market. I think it's great that there are now places to see a movie without driving to the mega-plexes out west.

I will still stick to Midtown Cinema, but mainly because it's only a 10-minute walk. I am glad that they don't have such a nannyish policy on alcohol, though.

Aspen Athletic opened their permanent gym today in Aksarben Village. I just got back from my first workout and its a really nice place. They are still waiting on more equipment, but even without it they have a great selection.

Just got back from AV myself and I hope they develop in front of the theater/fitness center like they have in the renderings. That building feels really out of the way from the main strip to me.

Saw Black Swan at the theater last night and was very pleased. The screens seem larger than usual and the picture quality was very good. Aksarben and Midtown are now my primary theaters.

I mentioned this on the University Village thread, but the new dorms at AV are looking really good and that area is stating to come together really well. Easy to see that as one of the places to be once construction is completely finished.

I was very happy (and surprised) to see the new student apartments on UNO's South Campus near AV. The design is pretty good, and they are definitely urban in feel and orientation - making the suburban style dorms of Scott Village look pretty goofy.

Not really. I think they look fine. They are a buffer between the low density neighborhood and the new Aksarben.

Besides they were there LONG before Aksarben Village was ever thought of.

That's one thing I'll agree with you. They could have done better with the older ones (the ones built around 2002ish) and not wasted so much land. UNO has very limited land to work with and they need to make it as urban as possible simply because they only have limited space to grow.

I personally think UNO should have been given or bought the entire Aksarben complex and used it strictly for educational and dorm buildings. It was their last chance at a really big piece of land to grow on.
