I am excited they are building this! Yeah, Ameritrade! Right now, the crane towering over the area has a horizontal beam about the height the 230' building is going to be, I estimate. With it going to be about the height of the DoubleTree Hotel downtown, and a similiar-shaped block, it is going to be a really tall, significant structure for that area, making all the I-680-lined Old Mill and Regency buildings look pretty short (the Regency Center is only 5 main floors, topped with a smaller-shaped 6th floor). If a 12-story, 230' building looks that tall in that area, it really shows how low-rise West Omaha is, even with all the suburban office blocks we have. I hope this prompts more significant suburban towers in the future, and makes people think "taller" when it comes to building a suburban office building. I also love the new suburban "downtown" forming down on Harrison and I-80.

Totally agree when about the height in suburban areas. I would love to see a 10-12 story tower end up in the FNB business park off of 137th and Dodge some day. It makes a great statement about the vitality of every part of the city not just the main core.

Yes, we definitely see eye-to-eye. It is exciting. Starting way back, I've always liked to see the black, simplistic Omaha Tower office block standing tall on 72nd, outside of downtown, with its expansive, grassy lawn, and to think we now have the sharp & high-tech Aksarben Village development buildings nearby, too. And, now the slick Ameritrade going up. And, of course, we can't forget the glassy Pacific Place buildings and the sharp office buildings on West Dodge with the high-design facades, colored glass, cornices, curved glass walls, retro accents, and multi-angles. And, we have the new sharp hotels, ect., down at Harrison and I-80, which I feel are excellent in representing a great regional design for Nebraska. I'm really much more pleased with Omaha's architecture nowadays (in both downtown and suburbs). I'm really impressed with it all.

I just am really anxious to see the steel frame go up (as it goes up fairly quickly). As long as I can see the full shape of the building visible by the steel frame completed, then it becomes more enjoyable to me to wait-out the rest of the construction. The base work, to me, is the stuff that seems to take a long time...

The taller of the two Tower Cranes now has a "TD Ameritrade" sign next to the Kewit sign. I am wondering if they are not testing out sign sizes for the top of the new building. You can tell there is something different up there from the I680/I80 Junction, but you definitely can't make out what it says until you are right next to the construction site.

Forms are up, lining segments of the "basement" of the tower. They've been pouring into them for a week or two now.

Near as I can tell, they're still doing more of the same - pouring foundation walls. I haven't been down there since Saturday though.

Just drove by this morning and it's SSDD. Foundation walls are being poured and rebar is being shuffled around. Don't see any steel on site.

The last two Sunday mornings, on my way to Christ Community Church at the south tip of Old Mill Office park, I notice the building of the steel frame for the lower levei of (or the open plaza under) the TD Ameritrade's new corporate headquarters tower - Starting at east end, 108th street, and working west towards the creek.

In other words, starting on the underside of the right end of the tower as pictured from Easter Sunday 2010 Omaha World-Herald article "Brokerage firm trading up"

Image

The Old ACI Worldwide building to the south, not yet torn down for a parking lot, is being used as a construction office.

A photo update:

The last Sunday mornings, on my way to and from Christ Community Church at the south tip of Old Mill Office Park, I took These photo. It Aapears that lower lever of the TD Ameritrade's new corporate headquarters tower has been framed out with steel and ready to add the next floor.

Yes, they've built two full floors. The section closest to Old Mill Rd seems to be a 2-story atrium thing, and to the back where the shorter section is they have built a full second floor.
