i hope not. I may be the only one, but (without seeing it in person) i don't think it looks all too good there. The cover itself is nice, but doesn't seem to fit well in my opinion.

MECA to fence in parking lots

I am fine with the lots being fenced in. I hope the don't surround the entire stadium like last year though, it doesn't sound like that is the plan.

Fencing certainly won't add to aesthetic appeal of the surface lots but it makes sense with logistics and security. Maybe we could cover them with ivy?

Well a fence HAS to be up for Red Sky(thats another topic). Ivy would be nice, but I doubt this fence is permanent. It wont be needed when the lots get developed next year! Maybe that is just wishful thinking.

According to the article its Aluminum, so I would guess its Permanent...

I guess I should of kind of defined permanent, the fences will probably be there as long as the lots are which I guess don't expect to last terribly long.

My hope is that the fences will be as permanent as the lots themselves... not very.

The fences will make even more concrete (no pun intended) the fact that these are dead spaces, mega-blocks with no use other than providing one level of automobile storage.

But man, I've been thinking about this. How ugly is a gray chain-link fence surrounding massive surface lots in North Downtown going to be?

For that area being Omaha's "front door", I'd want to keep anything having to do with a gray chain-link fence as far away from making a first impression as possible.

Most unfortunate.

Is it going to be chain-link or actual decent looking aluminum fence? Chain-link would look awful.

The Qwest Center along with Levy Premium Foodservice will be adding a 308' x 199' sidewalk cafe to the north of the building. It wall have a 6 ft tall fence around it.

Roger Dixon was just on 1620 and he said that after the Shamrock Development is built, the next focus would be on expanding the convention center.
