Wow, I looked through some of Cordish's other stuff, and their Ballpark Village in St. Louis looks incredible. Can they do that for us and Ameritrade?

Edit: Scratch that, it got Wallstreet Towered.

Cordish is a big time player in the development game. The fact that they want to build in Omaha is amazing for the area.

No, main development killed by recession, watered down development proposed in its place.

Yeah if they were going North Downtown or Riverfront that would of been amazing, but to get a 100+ million dollar development anywhere in the metro is huge news and if they think their best bet is an outlet area then I wont complain much.

They tore up the ground where this is supposed to go last month. Planted a crop of some sort. That should tell you something.

My prediction...

Sarpy County has completely designed plans for Giles. A new viaduct over the tracks and a new intersection for 132nd street. I don't see much happening until that construction is complete.

By then, Nebraska Crossing will likely have been re-done, and there won't be a need for another outlet center.

Been there about a week and a half. As you say they are advertisements (billboard avoidance) lets see when they turn dirt.

Cordish says outlet development on track

Post by Hoop »

Omaha World Herald wrote:
A $104 million outlet center and entertainment district in La Vista's Southport West Development is on track, according to Cordish Companies representatives.

"We are pleased to report that we are making excellent progress on every facet of the development," Port Telles, Development Director for The Cordish Companies said. "We are also pleased to report that leasing efforts have gone even better than we initially expected both in terms of number and quality of leading national brands."
Telles said Cabela's ongoing success in the Southport West Development has served as a good example of the strength of the development for other brands interested in being part of the project.

In late-January, Cordish representatives had said the development could open as early as fall 2012. While that date or even earlier may still be a possibility, the company has its sights firmly set on 2013.

"Based upon the tremendous progress made to date, we have every intention of making a 2013 opening and potentially getting open earlier than initially projected," Telles said.

I think it would be great to see this development along the I-80 corridor. This whole area looks much different already than it did 10-15 yrs ago, or even the last 5-10 years. I had family in town a few months ago, and they commented on how this corridor looks much different and more urban than the cornfields that once dominated it.

I guess I'd be a LITTLE surprised to hear a developer of the caliber of Cordish concede defeat... maybe if this were a 'Townsend' (ie little/no track record... we should have seen that coming).

Living in Gretna I have not heard much of anything. I can say that some of the non traditional businesses have been or are planning on moving out. They are not closing, but moving to other places in the area. I take this as a sign that things might be moving forward.

New ownership hasn't been renewing any of the current tenants leases. At least, if they aren't a good "fit" for the new center.

I had a business lunch with some folks in the know today, I have heard that Cordish is planning on beginning the first phase (the entertainment section) in April, and the retail phase is still waiting on an anchor store to commit. Still quite in the rumor realm, but anything positive at this point is good.

Hardly seems dead when they're lobbying the state senate for a new entertainment district law.

Man you guys are fast! I got the alert on my phone this morning at 12:41, but didnt read it until this morning. It sounds like an interesting piece of legislation. Was it just me or did they only talk about proponents? Id like to hear an opposing point of view if there is one.

As long as the hire a reputable security company with great references from other developers of major outdoor lifestyle shopping centers (hint hint), I dont see this causing any issues.

I really hope they can pass these legislative changes. But absolutely zero construction activity has occurred in the year or so since this project was announced with so much fanfare. This is so disappointing to groups I am involved with that have booked major conferences for Southport with the assurances that major shopping and entertainment venues would be up and running by late 2012. And now we got zippo. We have to rent busses to haul everyone down to the Old Market for restaurants and bars and shopping. The hotels overlook a farm field and empty lots.

Nothing really new here, but at least everything is still on the table as well...

New details on the development, which was announced in January 2010, are scarce, but in a statement released by the project's developer, Cordish Companies, it is noted that prospective tenants' responses have been "overwhelming."

I personally think Southport will win over Nebraska Crossing. The people who own NC are already taking on another massive project (Crossroads). Plus, there is so much more things/people surrounding the Southport area. And I think the entertainment piece of it is what really sets it apart from what NC is planning.

This is also how I "feel"...lets hope its true. I think with its proximity to society it would be very successful and could trigger a lot of growth.

WOWT tonight reporting rejuvenated plans to renovate Nebraska Crossing and bring in new 'A list' tenants... Coach mentioned.

Maybe Coach should be doing more research on what's happening in the market.
