The only thing that would have made that video better is if he had a AR15 leaning up against that bed sheet alongside a stack of bibles or something.

If you or I are going to hear a credible report about a major American dam in danger of collapsing/exploding, you had better take it to the bank it ain't gonna be coming from some yahoo wearing an American flag shirt.Kyle Broflovski wrote:HA HA HA HA HA!Bosco55David wrote:

Interestingly, when tap water has a chlorine smell to it, that is usually an indicator that not enough chlorine is being used. Weird, huh?Omababe wrote:Now that you mention it ... the other day I thought I smelled chlorine in it. But it can also be an indication that there may be more contaminants in your water than there should be, too.

That smell isn't actually chlorine, it is the smell of the chlorine reacting with other things in the water. When you can smell it at a pool that means there is to much sweat, urine or other things you don't want to be swimming in(I worked at a pool a few summers). I would assume the same holds true for drinking water.S33 wrote:Interestingly, when tap water has a chlorine smell to it, that is usually an indicator that not enough chlorine is being used. Exactly what I was getting at. When you can actually smell the chlorine-like smell in tap water, it means it is out of balance, more often than not, not enough chlorine. With the correct amount of chlorine for a given volume of water, it actually reacts and creates other forms of chlorine which dilutes the smell - thus, the perfect balance.iamjacobm wrote:That smell isn't actually chlorine, it is the smell of the chlorine reacting with other things in the water. I thought the same thing yesterday. The water does smell "more" chlorinated than it normally does.
Didn't know that meant that it's out of balance. Interesting.

I drink a lot of water at home so I thought something was weird that my water bottle smelled a bit funny, but I figured it was because the water was a bit old, but then my g/f remarked that it tasted a bit weird and went in bought a filter.

US orders news blackout over crippled Nebraska Nuclear Plant: report
The Nation wrote:A shocking report prepared by Russia’s Federal Atomic Energy Agency (FAAE) on information provided to them by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) states that the Obama regime has ordered a “total and complete” news blackout relating to any information regarding the near catastrophic meltdown of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant located in Nebraska.
According to this report, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant suffered a “catastrophic loss of cooling” to one of its idle spent fuel rod pools on 7 June after this plant was deluged with water caused by the historic flooding of the Missouri River which resulted in a fire causing the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) to issue a “no-fly ban” over the area.
Located about 20 minutes outside downtown Omaha, the largest city in Nebraska, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant is owned by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) who on their website denies their plant is at a “Level 4” emergency by stating: “This terminology is not accurate, and is not how emergencies at nuclear power plants are classified.”
Russian atomic scientists in this FAAE report, however, say that this OPPD statement is an “outright falsehood” as all nuclear plants in the world operate under the guidelines of the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) which clearly states the “events” occurring at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant do, indeed, put it in the “Level 4” emergency category of an “accident with local consequences” thus making this one of the worst nuclear accidents in US history.
Though this report confirms independent readings in the United States of “negligible release of nuclear gasses” related to this accident it warns that by the Obama regimes censoring of this event for “political purposes” it risks a “serious blowback” from the American public should they gain knowledge of this being hidden from them.
I have recently flown in to Omaha twice in the last month. We almost always approach the airport from the north, which puts us over the plant. Only three weeks ago, before the supposed "no fly zone" was issued. Only a week later on a flight back to Omaha, after the "no fly zone" was initiated, we flew in from the south. I also noticed that every single plane taking off from Eppley, regardless of destination, was coming in from the south and departing from the south. It just seemed very curious to me as I have flown numerous times to Eppley, and have never approached or departed from the south as opposed to the north. Just an observation, but maybe it can be related to this?

You do know planes take off and land into the wind and that wind changes direction right?

I fly in/out of Eppley on average of once a month or more and have for several years.
It seems to be a coin-flip as to whether the planes are taking off/landing to the north or south, or which runway they use.
However, the traffic always seems to be in the same direction, taking off and landing, depending on which way the wind is blowing. I can never remember seeing the planes both come in from the south and take off to the south.
The planes that fly west to Sin City, either direct or via Denver, turn west almost immediately after take-off, far south of the Fort Calhoun Nuke Plant, which is way north of Fort Calhoun, much closer to Blair.

Which means the river hit the top end of the 34-36 foot range the Army COE predicted for this event. For the last week, the river forecast has predicted that the river would stay steady or fall - only for it to rise higher each day. The current forecast has the river at 35.9 feet today, dropping to 35.7 by tomorrow... Makes me wonder if they are underestimating the aftermath of last week's rains or the affect of the increase to 160,000 CFS here.Tornado wrote:The river hit 36ft this morning at 8 in Omaha.
Also, sad news about the levee break down near Percival, IA. Interstate 29 is now closed down from mile marker 24 (the Bartlett interchange) to Rockport, MO - another 14 miles of vital interstate shut down. Also more importantly, this levee break looks to directly impact Percival as well as the other home owners between I-29 and the river in that area. :(

Other posters already addressed the wind issue. I want to address the "no fly zone" issue. There is a TFR for the Fort Calhoun plant. It covers a 2 nautical mile (2.3 miles) radius from the ground to 3500 feet. If you are above 3,500 feet our outside of that 4X4 nautical mile box you are fine.sincitybaby wrote: I have recently flown in to Omaha twice in the last month. At Eppley and 99% of the airports out there you will takeoff and land into the wind. The majority of the exceptions out there either deal with terrain noise abatement or both. For example from midnight to 7:00 a.m. at LAX the preferred traffic pattern is to have planes land from the west over the Ocean AND takeoff to the East over the ocean for noise issues. At Telluride Colorado a single runway airport, the preferred traffic pattern is to have planes land from the West and takeoff to the East for noise abatement and terrain issues.Omababe wrote: However, the traffic always seems to be in the same direction, taking off and landing, depending on which way the wind is blowing. Omaha is a relatively un-busy airport. When planes takeoff within a minute or two after departure they are issued radar vectors to their initial fix. 95% of the time on Omaha to Denver the initial waypoint is the OBH VOR West of Columbus. So yeah as you said, the plane will already have been assigned a heading to intercept OBH well before Fort Calhoun.Omababe wrote: The planes that fly west to Sin City, either direct or via Denver, turn west almost immediately after take-off, far south of the Fort Calhoun Nuke Plant, which is way north of Fort Calhoun, much closer to Blair.
The only spot the TFR could potentially impact Eppley traffic is the 14R approach for landing. If you followed the full instrument approach the initial approach fix called "OTSEE" is only 2 miles outside of the restricted zone, so you'd be close to Fort Calhoun at that point. That said, you are required to normally be at above or 3300 feet (the TFR requires above 3500 so only a 200 ft difference). Not a huge issue at all. Also much like takeoffs from Eppley full approaches are very rarely flown. You are usually given more direct vectors by controllers.

Guess that's a little bit of good news in this flooding situation\mess... but we need to see a much bigger drop than that to take more pressure off these levees. Hoping that the weather stays dry and there are no more further increases in the release from Gavins Point.thenewguy wrote:according to the hydrological forecast for the river from NOAA, the river is supposed to drop to 35 feet in the next 5 days.

Well, for what it's worth, they've been predicting a slow drop every time I've looked at it for the past week, even as the actual water level has continued to rise.Bryan1117 wrote:Guess that's a little bit of good news in this flooding situation\mess... but we need to see a much bigger drop than that to take more pressure off these levees.
