Widening of I-80 stretch should be done by November

The widening project is ahead of schedule. Hawkins Construction Co. has completed 70 percent of the work and used up 65 percent of the time allotted.

Does anyone know if there is gonna be a median there like they do in Omaha? Or will cars still be able to cross over to the otherside and cause head on collissions.

I think there will be a cement barrier like in omaha all the way to lincoln.

From the looks of it driving it every day my GUESS would be that the concrete center will extend a little further out from where it now ends. About a 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile out the center line of the new E bound and the grading for the W bound seem to widden. At that point I would be really supprised if it continued. The grading seems to indicate a grass median with drainage.

Yeah I see an area for grass in the middle now. I don't get that but okay. Maybe room for light rail? ha

Has anyone driven the stretch of I-80 from Gretna to the 370 exit? While they're paving the WB lanes, it appears like there are/will be 4 lanes on the EB sides of the underpasses... how will they re-work this? I thought it was only going to be 3 lanes each way.

I would guess that on of the lanes currently used will become the shoulder.

Yes eventually there will be a large grass median starting somewhere in this project. I don’t know if it will be in this phase or not. Just check out the NDR’s website it does show plans for a wide 76’-88’ median.
