Yep, I recalled correctly, according to the little Italy website. The townes at little Italy (the white houses) are between 7th and 8th. So this new development could go between 8th and 9th.
If memory serves me correctly, I believe the initial plan for The Townes at little Italy called for them to go from 6th street to west of 8th street, incorporating part of 3 blocks. I will take 3 block of them or mix in some brownstones. Either way new development in the area is very exciting.
BlueStone to build a 48 unit Apt building instead of town homes at this location. Construction should begin in April and possibly be done by Dec of same year. Very similar in look to 22 floors.

Don't get me wrong, I want more development and any or almost anything is a good thing. But won't something that looks like 22 floors kind of be out of place at that corner.
I might be thinking of the corner across from giovanni (sp). Sorry, if I was wrong.
No, it is not the corner across from the Giovanna's.
It is the block west of the Towns
It is similar 22 floors but enough difference that I think it will look fine
Wow. I have to say, the surge in apartment development on the periphery of Downtown is really incredible!
Seriously! There will be hundreds upon hundreds (if not thousands) of new apartment residences in and near Downtown within the next couple years that were not there before.
It goes to show that demand for urban living was in no way tied to the "condo boom" of the early 2000s. Apparently the market is responding.

I must say that I'm holding my breath here. I mean, this is the fourth 48 unit new construction residence announced for downtown, or near downtown, in three months. This comes on the heels of the renovations on 19th Street and beyond. There is a new 11 story hotel planned for 12th and Jackson, and now it seems that 10 and Capitol will be a real flagship project. What a truly amazing time to be in Omaha. This, as Streets said, is almost more important that the condo boom. This demonstrates durability. Amazing. If I hold my breath any longer...I...might...just...
What are you holding your breath for? Let that |expletive| out!

Christian sent me some renderings last week that don't really look like what is posted above. I'm wondering if the design is not finalized.

Did they look better or worse than what is posted?
I'm going to keep my judgments to myself until a final design is publicized. :)

Yeah, that does look kind of like something out at 180th and Maple with a moat of water (retention pond) on one side and moat of parking on another. Maybe the finishes will look better than the rendering, but I thought they stopped building cheap-looking buildings like that after the 90s ended.

Bluestone also responded to the design criticism by pointing out that it's playing off the Towns of Little Italy design...hence the pitched roof line.
I was going to mention that this actually fits with the Towns of Little Italy pretty nicely. I don't mind the design. Not saying that it's best for the area, but it actually fits with the Towns...

This development looks totally out of scale for the neighborhood, compared to Towns of Little Italy. The original neighborhood consists of a wide variety of smaller scale individual dwellings spaced closely together. Like others have said, this looks like something Dial Realty or Slosburg would have done back in the mid 1990's in West O.....sorry.
This is moving along. They have been digging for a few days and have now dug out a very large hole and made a huge dirt pile on the south side of the site by the alley. I even saw the bulldozers (or diggers or whatever they're called...I'm not a construction guy) moving around on Saturday.
I'm having a hard time picturing how they're going to fit that rendering in the spot though. I mean, it's a big hole, but the rendering above looks very long, almost like an entire block. Again, I'm not a construction guy, so that's just my untrained eyes talking.
