The Chiefs fired coach Herm Edwards this afternoon.
Edwards coached the Chiefs for three seasons. He guided them to the playoffs in 2006 but the Chiefs quickly fell on hard times. They’ve lost 23 of their last 25 games and finished a franchise worst 2-14 last season.

So unless people I have known for years are blatantly lying to me, Shanahan will not be the next coach of the Chiefs. It’s not happening. People can keep talking as if it is, but it’s not. Shanahan will not be the coach of the Chiefs in 2009.
This rumor was started by that hack Chris Mortensen on ESPN. He said that the contract was nearly finished and should be anncounced soon, but after he came off looking like a complete fool, he backed up to say that the Chiefs were simply "targeting" Shanahan for the job. Even if negotiations DO occur, Shanny won't be ending up in KC unless he goes back on his statement that he would only join a team close to competing for a Super Bowl, and the Chiefs aren't even close as that team is in complete disarray.
Personally, I'm kinda sad to see both Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards leave. Their presence ensured that the Chiefs would continue to suck.

Cassel did fine last year and is better than at least 2 of the 3 QB's that the Chiefs went with last year. As far as Vrabel, the young KC team needs another veteran in the locker room.
Cassel did fine last year in a system meant to take advantage of his skill set and a team that was unbeaten until the Super Bowl a year before. He doesn't have that same luxury in Kansas City.
It was a good trade for the Chiefs, but I don't think Cassel is going to be all that great. Personally I hope he sucks to high heaven and the Chiefs become the 2nd team to go winless in as many years. :mrgreen:
Hmm funny to hear a broncos fan say that about Cassel since the ponies were about to give up that drama queen of a QB Cutler for Cassel beofore that deal fell through.

Got your facts a bit mixed up there. We were approached about 2 different trades and turned them down. McDaniels briefly considered pulling the trigger on Cassel since he's worked with him, but ultimately decided against it. :mrgreen:

Quite a bit different than most of the national reports I heard.
It's what Adam Schefter (the absolute, bar none authority on Broncos football) has been reporting along with just about every other local Denver writer.
Remember, the national media was also the ones saying that the Chiefs had Mike Shanahan locked up while Schefter told us they hadn't even had contact. We know who won that round.
The Packers needed that loss to cull the invincible claims. I think 13-1 is better than Aaron Rodgers getting hurt. When you have the 31st ranked defense, it's no lock for the Super Bowl, especially when they've been relying on the offense to get things done. Green Bay's offense isn't at 100% with their O-Line beat up and Jennings & Starks out.

I'm glad they didn't hire McDaniels, I was glad to see they didn't even hire him as OC. I was not impressed with him in Denver and things did not go well in St. Louis this year. Crennel was well liked by the team (Haley was definitely not a players coach) and I believe the consistency will be a good thing. With the team getting the injured players back and a last place schedule, they will have a good shot at winning the division next year.

Seriously if Haley was not so stuborn with Palko, (and I was a Haley supporter) we would be in the Playoffs. Playing Orton 2 days after he joined the team against the steelers would have made more sense then Palko. I was at that game and Palko had one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a QB and he almost won that game.
Pumped for the future with Romeo as coach, a QB battle with Orton and Cassel brewing, and getting Berry, Moeki and Charles back. Plus with SD keeping Norv, Oakland firing another coach and Denver playing a RB at QB we should be the favorites next year.

McDaniels problem in Denver had more to do with Denver than himself. For some reason Pat Bowlen does not believe in having a strong GM in place with the organization, and essentially dumped all that responsibility on a 32 year old first time head coach. Not surprising that he blew the |expletive| up there. That said, he's an extremely talented quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. I'm glad he's not coming back to the division.
Was listening to some Peyton Manning "if he left Indy" talk, they said a great fit would be with KC because of the solid ownership which is a big deal for the Mannings. I truly think I would pee my pants if we got Manning, I'm not going to hold my breath but was pleased to hear this, made me think of Montana back in the 90s.

Earlier Sunday, Winkler took to Twitter to post his excitement about Sunday night’s encounter.
As the Kansas City Chiefs took the field for pregame warmups Sunday night, Mahomes jogged over to Winkler on the sidelines. "I appreciate you coming," Mahomes said as he presented Winkler with a signed jersey. "It says Winkler on the back and everything. I appreciate you. Have a great time." The pair exchanged hugs and quickly posed for photos. After the encounter, Winkler said he was "thrilled out of his mind." ‘I think that I just met one of my heroes," he said. "He was so genuine. I think that he is exactly the same in life as he lives with the intensity on the field." Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also showed his love for the "Fonz," in pregame, donning a red and white shirt in homage to the actor. Winkler seemed to enjoy the game as well, which Kansas City won 30-27 on Mahomes' third touchdown to Kelce with 31 seconds remaining.
