Yes.

I'm not making commentary on the quality of the development. I love Midtown Crossing and think it is one of the best things to happen to Omaha in the last 50 or so years.

I just don't think it's quite to the point of being "congested and crowded" outside of occasional special events. The closest city with "congested crowded" neighborhoods would seem to me to be Chicago.

You don't need to go as far as Chicago... Minneapolis has many neighborhoods (outside of downtown), busy with foot traffic (more bikes than I've ever seen in Chicago by the way) comprised of the people who actually live in the immediate area. That contrasts with Midtown Crossing where the majority of those patronizing businesses in the area are from elsewhere.

Right. But the phrase in question is "crowded and congested." Let's really think about that. Yes, Minneapolis has vibrant urban neighborhoods, as does Omaha. But in neither case would I classify neighborhoods as crowded and congested.

It seems to me a matter of understanding the meaning of the words "congested" and "crowded." Yes, I suppose it's possible to have such a distorted idea of what it's like to live around other humans that the mere presence of people on a sidewalk and cars on a street in a neighborhood makes it seem congested and crowded.

I get it, Annie is after a quieter neighborhood and was being a little hyperbolic with her word choice. To me, it's just a little funny, because MC hasn't even come CLOSE to reaching the level of bustling vitality that its promoters and residents envision and desire, yet to some, it's already "crowded and congested."

She seems to be using the English language quite well as far as I can see. I originally had the same questioning thought about the congested and crowded comment, then I realized that my perspective may be different than hers. Instead of asking "Are you serious?" and the above holier than thou drivel, you could perhaps ask for clarification on what they need or are looking for and help them instead of attempting to belittle them in a public forum.

What's the point of citing 'congestion' ??

I'm talking about -local- foot traffic. Midtown Crossing is essentially an urban island created in a sea of neglected, under served urban housing... absent real daily needs... grocer, retail, good services, etc. Wohlner's came with the hopes the affluent island would sustain it, in an area otherwise incapable of supporting it on it's own. The retail depends on outsiders being drawn to the area attracted to it's 'coolness'. Quite frankly, there are no neighborhoods in Omaha anything like those in Minneapolis.

Foot traffic abounds in Minneapolis neighborhoods from local residents frequenting nearby grocers/retail. There are in fact people actually walking/riding bikes to the grocer/retailer in these neighborhoods in large numbers, the tiny parking lots attest to this (ie they don't need them). You can drive down 'Lake St' from the river to St Louis Park and see mile after mile of vibrant street activity like this. It's all locals... not folks out to enjoy a walk around Turner Park after taking their dog to the gourmet pet food shop before driving back home to suburbia.

Im not sure but to guess I would say about 25-35% still to be filled. Its hard to judge as there are many stalls empty but not sure how many sections a business will take.

I decided to work from Delice today and overheard the MTC marketing team having a meeting

Some of the events they were saying will be occurring this year.

No more weekend famers market - Instead they will host a mid week market in the parking garage at the wohlners entrance wednesdays from 4-7

running races and owl ride stop on the same day (workout day)

Something called Hot City, not too sure that was about, but it has a lot of vendors

I think the rescheduling of the farmers market is a good idea, as it doesn't make sense to compete with Old Market when they're so close (for both customers and vendors). My wife and I visited it a couple times, but if we were going out Saturday morning, we would generally go to Old Market, since the selection was so much better there anyway. We would be much more likely to go if it is on Wed night, though.

I anyone other than me was curious as to why Ingredient has looked closed the past few days I guess they had a fire in their kitchen and had to shutdown and clean it all up, should open next week.

Fire temporarily closes Ingredient

Ingredient restaurant in Midtown Crossing is expected to reopen May 11 after repairs can be made to the business following a fire in its kitchen on Monday.

In a press release, owner Patrick Phelen said the fire was caused by a piece of equipment falling off during nightly staff cleaning procedures. No employees were injured and damage from the fire was contained to several pieces of equipment.

The May 11 opening is contingent on the restaurant getting replacement equipment delivered on time
