Lens Rentals?

Has anyone used one of the many online lens rental companies? I would like to rent the Canon 16-35 2.8L II for the week I'm in Florida. Price is around $100 for the week. I would also like to rent a 400mm+ L lens for our trip to Rowe Sanctuary when the Sandhill Cranes come.

I think it makes sense to rent great glass for big once-in-a-life trips. I can't afford this stuff on my own!

I just want to know who is reliable and who isn't.

No, that's for a week!

I could really make good use of that at Baseball, Hockey, and Basketball if the seasons lined up with the cranes better.

Yeah, duh. I meant week.

If I was getting paid for a sports event, renting that sucker would be a no-brainer.

Those were an XSi with the 100-400L

I would LOVE some tips (more like lessons, I dont know much at all

). I put a thread on http://www.dpreview.com at one point, and some people did some pretty amazing things with the first image in Lightroom. I do not have photoshop, but assume GIMP could do alot of what PS could.. I do have Lightroom, but have not had much time to play with it, except for organizing.

I have gimp and photoshop. I prefer photoshop but I think they do a lot of the same things. DTO always says if you take good photos to begin with you don't need photoshop, which is almost true, however I do enough sports photos where I can't always get the Ideal shot and photoshop works better than Gimp for adding that extra punch to photos.

The other thing I have not figured out with Gimp... In photoshop you can rotate a photo any amount, in Gimp I don't see that ability.

I'm trying to find all the online tutorials I used to learn Lightroom. It is my favorite post processing application.

I think you should start with White Balance and Tone Curves.

White Balance:

Once you figure out WB and TC, everything else in Lightroom is just moving the sliders around until you're happy with the image.

I second what TD said. Lightroom is superb and what I use for 95% of all my post work.

That's fantastic! I don't know that I would've waited until the bear was only 20yds away before I ditched the gear though.
