I was glad to see Kimmel did not make fun of Omaha, as east-west coasters often do. Max did a good job representing us.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.

WHAT TO DO The trials are at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha’s revitalized North Downtown neighborhood. Slowdown, an indie-rock club, helped anchor the area’s upturn after opening in 2007 and has become the best place to see and hear live music in the city. Fans of baseball — which along with softball was bumped from the coming Summer Games — can see a game in the College World Series, held nearby at TD Ameritrade Park.

Interesting to note that while Eugene, OR, San Jose, CA, and Newport, RI all got the state identifier treatment, Omaha didn't! We're famous!

It's not the best national news for Omaha... I have no clue who this guy is

FROM USA TODAY
Shots fired at rapper Tyga's tour bus in Omaha

Police are investigating a shooting in Omaha Monday night after a rowdy concert by rapper Tyga.

Authorities say heated words were exchanged between members of Tyga's act and audience members, reports AP. Garbage was thrown on the stage.

Police say shots were fired from a car as band members boarded their tour bus. More shots were fired from the car as it followed the bus and its trailer for a few blocks. Two people (out of nine, including two children) on the bus suffered minor wounds.

The guy has one huge hit, pretty much your stereotypical radio rapper.

There is video of the words exchanged on youtube.

Omaha, Neb., may better known for insurance companies than for indie bands. But visiting the Gateway to the West was a dream come true for Swedish sister act First Aid Kit (Johanna and Klara Söderberg), on par with a pilgrimage to Memphis or Motown.

That might sound surprising, but Omaha has produced its share of great indie acts whose popularity extends across the Atlantic and into the chillier climes of Scandinavia.

“Omaha has always been a Mecca for us because of the music scene,” says Johanna. “It’s always been this mysterious place where all this magical music came from.”

Omaha was recently rated #5 music scene (which left out NYC, LA and Nashville for reasons why all know) by livability.com

Bozell, an Omaha marketing agency will be competing on an AMC reality series called "The Pitch."

Cindy Gonzalez, World-Herald Staff Writer wrote:She was just sure that big-city agencies were snickering at the only Midwest agency in the mix.

"Oh, they're from Omaha — we get that a lot," Mickelsen said. "Bumbling idiots from the Plains?"

A camera crew that had been in town about two weeks in February to shoot the documentary-style segment, however, seemed impressed. Weather was unseasonably pleasant. Good restaurants were plentiful.

"The whole cow town thing" didn't play out, said Mickelsen, who expects Omaha to be "painted proud."

Considering the client, and the nature of the local advertising for JDRF fundraisers, their idea was simply worlds better. Could you see HyVee, OCC, or any kind of a church allowing a poster with the tagline "One Less Prick" in bold letters hang ontheir walls?

It is a good article, but I didn't understand why they were listing proximity to Des Moines for making Omaha an attractive location for financial services. I know that Des Moines has Principal Financial, but Omaha is much more established as a financial services city.

Great link. I think it captures the Omaha zeitgeist regarding start-ups, but I don't think the problem is unique to Omaha. There's a lot of money in Omaha-----the people who have it just need to be convinced that 'venture capital' isn't a dirty word, and the local start-up community needs to be a bit more savvy about marketing itself to potential local (or non-local) sources of capital. They could also use some help with publicity. Anyone can write a press release. Getting your name out there isn't rocket surgery.

Great shots of the pedestrian bridge at sunset with downtown in the background on ESPN. Maybe they've been doing it all week, idk, but it's the first time I've seen the crane cam shots from the CB side.

I wonder if this has happened before, but I though it was impressive that two nation-wide broadcasts were happening at the same time in Omaha. I was stuck at work, but I had the swim trials on NBC and the CWS on ESPN, bot at 7pm. I love the exposure!

The Expedia list is very dependent on hotels having Expedia inventory open and opting in on their "deals". I'm not discounting their quality as that is a great hotel, but they are ranked #8 in Omaha according to tripadvisor.com, who I think reaches a greater audience.

Fox Business wrote:This “virtual town hall” is dedicated to municipal and government projects. MindMixer, an Omaha, Nebraska-based company, has a mission to build stronger communities by promoting action.

Founded by former urban planners, the MindMixer platform has attracted more than 20,000 registered users nationwide by creating opportunities for people to take ownership of projects in their respective communities.

“Our mission isn’t to use technology [just] to create efficiencies in governments, education and business,” said CEO Nick Bowden. “Our background gives us the ability to build and deploy our technology through a lens of community building, not [just] technological efficiency.”

MindMixer recently closed out a Series A round of funding that raised $1.9 million, which comes on the heels of an earlier seed round from last year. With its infusion of capital, the company plans to double down on efforts to link communities together across the U.S.
