Flying to Omaha for a job interview this week

I'll have a little time available to check out the city and do some exploring. Is there anything in particular that I should see? I'm more concerned with getting a quick feel for the place and how to get around than seeing anything specific. Also, need advice on a good "date night" restaurant as this will be the first time my wife and I have been alone in quite some time!

FWIW, we'll be staying about 10 minutes west of downtown.

Old Market for a cool thing to see. Also good for date night. Given that the CWS is in town, I would call for reservations anywhere downtown or midtown. I might also look at restaurants in Midtown Crossing.

Date night places in no particular order:

Boiler Room
V Mertz
Flatiron
Lot 2
M's Pub
J Coco
801 Chophouse at the Paxton

First three are on the pricey side, but worth it. Next three are cheaper but not as intimate, but the food is still outstanding. 801 is the best steak house in town.

Tour some of the unique shops and art galleries located in the Old Market.
Be sure to make a pass throught the 'Old Market Passageway'.

- Next, dinner at one of the many great restaurants in the Old Market, followed by...

- A horse drawn carraige ride through downtown to the Heartland of America Park (on the riverfront)

- At the Hearland Park take a romantic gondola ride just like Italy (you can get the number for reservations from the Omaha Convention and Vistors Bureau).

- Finish by taking a quite stroll back to the Old Market for cocktails at one of the many lounges or bars in the area.

- If you cant score after that back in the hotel then there is something wrong with you.

Haha...

Do any of those boats even work anymore? The larger of the 2 appreas to be grounded and silted in. It dosen't even move with the waves anymore. The other boat looked like it was on its last leg when I walked by it last week. Nobody was around it, it was tied up near the larger boat.

I'll be an Omaha resident as of the first of August!

Now I need a recommendation for coffee. Not just any old coffee, but good coffee. I'm originally from Seattle. You start drinking cappuccino out there at age 4.

I don't drink it that often so I am not a best authority, but I do know Blue Line is popular. I have no idea what it compares to "good coffee though.

Caffeine Dreams by the Med Center is pretty good, haven't been there in a while though so I hope it's still open.

Aromas in the Old Market is good as well, pretty sure that's still open

Thanks for all of the info! I'm gonna have to do some wandering around visiting coffee shops. Lots of good suggestions.

Where I'm living now, the responses wouldn't be nearly as helpful or polite. It gives me hope for my new home.

Delice in Midtown Crossing is generally pretty good. They also have excellent desserts.

I would definitely recommend the Omaha born and raised Scooter's.
