It would have been nicer if the porches would have actually been big enough to be usable by the tenants, so they could eat outdoors.

A thoughtful decision was made to not have suburban style decks hanging into the ROW. They could have made them larger if they had wanted but it would have taken up more interior space. Ya never can make everyone happy though!

I don't think there was any "thoughtful decision" other than following codes. It's the same reason the new construction at jLofts has the decks inset from the exterior wall.

but honestly what good is a "smoker balcony"? It's the Urban equivalent of shutter on a house.

Misread your earlier post. My point was they either had to solve the code issue the way they did, or inset the balconies into the units ala jlofts. There is no option to extend the balconies over the sidewalk any further than they are now, except for in the alley (and that might not even be the case any more).
Stable genius.

Noticed today that apparently it isn't going to be Maggie Moo's back in the south bay. There is a sign up on the door for Marble Slab Creamery.

Probably a little "nicer" than Maggie Moos. At least with less of a cheep sounding name.

The ice cream shop has to open any day now. They were assembling their sidewalk tables this afternoon. The bay next to it is getting drywall today. The large one on the corner is still a dirt floor mess.

And they left a very cool part open for the residence entrance. They left all the brick exposed so you walk in and still see the fading Cherry Coke sign.

Sign is up for Marble Slab Creamery...nothing fancy but at least more than the decal on the door that has been there the past 2 weeks.

Little King is going in next to Marble Slab. And for what it is worth, the balconies on the south side of the building are actually functional, with tables and chairs visible.

We have Marble Slab down here. They are really good (though I personally prefer Coldstone) and will probably become pretty popular.

They have a tiny space. Wont be much room for tables inside.

Looks pretty cool inside so far. Definitely not your average Little King. Also they have a sign up, but it is covered up right now.

They unveiled the sign today not too bad looking. It also looked like there were employees inside today, they seem like they are about ready to open.

Ate at marble slab today- it is actually Maggie moo's. They have signs inside that state Maggie moo's has joined the Marble Slab company. From what I assume Maggie Moo's company was bought out

Is there any way to get a photo update of the new building? I'm not in town until December and would love to see the progress!

I love this project. The only thing I wish, if it was maybe 5 or 6 floors instead of 4. But they've done a great job - it fits in perfectly. Is there a website for the apartments?

Three floors, actually.

Sure does. I kind of hope they add some of those big round planters that match the other corner. I know they wouldn't be authentic, but that intersection seems so huge that it would be nice to have something to scale it down.

Nice shots Brad! I totally agree that this project was perfect for the corner. Looks like a great space on the inside as well, huge windows. Here is an interior from Alley Poyner's facebook.

I've eaten at Little King and had ice cream at Maggie Moos next door. Both are nice inside, especially with the giant windows.

I noticed on the door to the empty bay there is a permit issued on 1/4/13 for a new tenant finish. It listed an amount of $400,000 and said Plank Seafood. There is also a section with some plywood covering up the glass on the north side of the building.

Hopefully we see some work happening here soon.

About 1/5 of the floor was poured today on the corner bay.

Totally agree about adding the planters at that corner to make it more pedestrian friendly. This whole project is exactly what the Old Market needed at that location. The architect, developer, and owners did a great job!

Doesn't look like Marble Slab/Maggie Moos lasted too long. Walked by today and there were signs saying it closed.

But the good news is that a Juice Stop is going in the bay and it says it will open in November. At least it won't sit vacant long.

Yeah, I am sure they couldn't compete with Ted & Wally's, but it seemed like Maggie Moos used to at least get busy on the weekends in the old building.
We went to Ted and Wally's on a Friday night this summer and it was packed, but Maggie Moos only had 2-3 people there.
