This is more great news for mid-town, and Omaha in general! The area has reached the tipping point where more businesses will want to relocate due to the high number of residents, which then encourages even more residential development, leading to more businesses, etc.

What’s coming soon:

» A 119-room Marriott Residence Inn, next door to the Marriott Courtyard already in the development.

» More than 230 new residential units, ranging from apartments to town houses to luxury condos.

» A 60,000-square-foot retail building that could hold about 10 shops and restaurants.

» A 150,000-square-foot office building, which will include 40,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level.
Construction crews have already broken ground on several of the projects, and others should be under way by next year. Bradford said all of it should be wrapped up by 2015.
This is all in addition to the announcement the other day.

This is beyond awesome! What a great new area for the city of Omaha...this is huge!

That said, how long do wait before we start complaining about the parking lots, the lack of Urban-ness, and lack of bike racks? :P

It's not what I'd define as perfect, but if every development in Omaha looked like this you wouldn't hear me b!tch.

(Well, not a lot, at least.)

The Lot behind the Movie theater will eventually have buildings on 3 sides of it. Besides the current buuilding and the DJ's building under constrcution, there are still 3 buildings yet to be built.

Eventually you won't see that lot from the main street or the park.

I am disappointed Zone 5 doesn't look to end up as cool as originally proposed. By the sound of things the 60K sq foot retail wont include the condos like they were originally planned.

Although this is an awesome development all together. A great development for the city.

Like I said above, Zone 5 is only 1/5th completed. There are still 4 more buildings to go on that block...

No kidding! The Aksarben Village Plan came out about the same time the L Street Maketplace plan did... Thank god we didn't end up with another shopping center like that!

Well I kind of assumed the 60K retail building would be on Zone 5, the 150K office building on the large empty block, and the new hotel on the land with UNO dorms to the east.

Could Be.

That would still leave 2 lots on Zone 5 not planned for. I could see the building that will eventually be built south of BCBS have residential on the upper floors. Behind the theater.

Red - Available Lots
Blue - DJ's Dugout
Purple - Gordmans

Also, they have been working on the yellow area the past 2 weeks.

The north half (Everything north of the baseball field) is owned by the University of Nebraska.
The south half (Including the baseball field) is owned by MUD.

I am guessing any Chili Greens development is dependant on an access road across the creek through that property.

This morning, I walked around the site of DJ’s Dugout / Blazin Pianos, next to the Aksarben Cimena. The foundation for the Westside was being dug.

Did the Rib fest that took palce in CB come to an end? Now that you mention this I do not remeber the CB one happening this year or maybe the last few years? Mid-America Ribfest is what I think it was called since it was at the Mid America location.

We ate at one of these traveling road shows last week in Denver. Some decent food. Expect to pay about $10 for a sandwich and some chips or slaw. More for ribs. This is the same type organization that used to appear at the MAC.

The real smoker barbequers are down in LaPlatte for the 20th Annual State BBQ Championship of Nebraska Friday and Saturday, at the Station House at Sokol Park. http://www.gobs.org

Texas Thunder was my second favorite!

We hit all 4 stands first, ordered a 1/4 rack each then after that we went back for a 1/2 rack at Uncle Bubs, then some other combo platter for Texas Thunder!

Went to ribfest and two vendors were completely out of food at about 600pm. The other two had lines so long we ended up leaving. The two that were out of food (Texas & Chicago) said they were completely unprepared for the turnout. So we stopped by Jones Bros. for cupcakes to take home. They were very low on cupcakes and there were about 15 people in line behind us. I think everyone was surprised at the number of people that showed up in Aksarben this evening.

I received this in my email today:
Omaha Summer Arts Festival and Aksarben Village are presenting the first-ever ARTsarben this Saturday and Sunday at Aksarben Village (67th & Center)! Saturday hours are 10AM-7PM and Sunday hours are 10AM-4PM, and best of all, admission is FREE.

ARTsarben is offering something for everyone—amazing artwork, fun atmosphere, incredible food, family activities and outstanding live music!

There will be plenty of nearby, FREE parking at ARTsarben!

The ARTsarben Art Marketplace features more than 70 juried artists--on-site--offering works in a variety of mediums--jewelry, sculpture, photography, painting, fiber, glass, metal, wood and more. There’s an ATM available, and some artists even accept credit cards or checks. Bring a bag to take it all home or ask the artist to hold bigger pieces in their booth so you can pick them up later!

Check out the student art exhibition at ARTsarben featuring talent from the University of Nebraska at Omaha!

ARTsarben will feature live music beginning at 11AM each day in Stinson Park!

Saturday’s lineup:
  • 11 a.m. - UNO Brass Faculty Quintet - Dance music through the ages from Galliard to Gaga.

5:00 p.m. (headliner) - Lemon Fresh Day - One of Omaha’s most popular cover bands performing top 40, pop, country and rock classics.
Sunday’s lineup:
  • 11 a.m. – UNO Music Students featuring Danny Sabra
    • A ten-piece showcase of instrumental and vocal students, plus a special surprise.
    12:30 p.m. - No Better Cause
    • Award winning pop/soul/funk vocal band hailing from Lincoln.
    2:00 p.m. (headliner) - Gulizia Brothers
    • First Nebraska performance in years for this duo, featuring a jazz combo with bass, guitar, keyboard, vocals, percussion and horn.
ARTsarben’s KidZone features two bounce houses including a 60-foot obstacle course, a huge bubble-blowing tower, face-painting, giant parade puppets, and lots of hands-on art activities! Some activities will require one to three tickets (only 50 cents each) to cover materials.

Look for the Throwing Picassos juggling act entertaining you throughout the grounds of ARTsarben on Saturday!

Get a snack at ARTsarben or make a meal of it at the Food Court! There’s a little bit of everything to please all tastes--Prairie Fire Pizza, Maria Bonita Mexican Cuisine’s food truck, Ty's Amazing food truck, Godfather's Pizza, Jolly Time Koated Kernels, Dippin' Dots, and Shuck's Fish House & Oyster Bar. Thank you all for your comments awhile back concerning the Aksarben Ribfest!

As a couple of you mentioned, we were completely overwhelmed by the response to our inaugural event while also gratified by the general comments and tone of the event.

I've just posted an announcement for the 2013 Aksarben Ribfest, which will be bigger and better! We'll definitely upgrade the pre-event logistics to support our expanded roster five world class rib teams and ensure that no one misses out on their lip smackin' recipes.

We look forward to seeing you all in 2013!

I know it was for sale a while back but I don't remember it being sold. If your driving west on center you can see down into the job site.

They leveled it, installed underground sprinklers and laid sod over the entire property. Wondering if it's going to be a soccer field or something like that...
