Ponzu Sushi @ Aksarben

Post by Brad »

Just drove through Aksarben Village.

Signs are up and Construction appears to be underway for the Sushi Restaurant. Couldn't make out the sign, but there is a name on it.
Luv Bird Boutique was having some sort of pre-grand opening party.

Looking around, I think every commercial bay may be leased in the Main Buildings around the park, I also think Pinhook leased their commercial space too.

EDITL Photo os the Sushi Restaurant - Ponzu

The sushi/steak place is called Ponzu I believe.

All of the bays on the two main buildings are ostensibly leased. Mai Tai still has a dirt floor and zero construction several months after their leased sign went up.

Pinhook has at least one open spot that I know of.

A Japanese/sushi restaurant is under construction immediately north of the movie theatre entrance.

...with very little fanfare. Soft launch?

I hadn't seen any information on it, and I don't even think they have a Facebook page or anything of the sort.

Correct. It's owned by Jimi DiPrima of Jimi D's and they have minimal web presence too. For the longest time they didn't have a website and their Facebook is fairly worthless. He doesn't seem to care much about social media or the internet. Surprising being that he is a young guy.

I seem to run across lots of local restaurants with little or no Internet presence. I'd imagine their owners are simply more involved with the inner workings of the place and figure they have little time to deal with a website. That's a shame for those like me who largely scope out new places via websites. I wonder if this might be an entrepreneurial opportunity for someone with some time who could whip up websites for restaurants? At least the menus should be available for viewing!

Ponzu Sushi & Grill has potential to become an Omaha mainstay

Sara Blake WORLD-HERALD Correspondent wrote:Ponzu's wait staff are courteous, helpful and efficient. Its sushi and rolls are done well, and if it can make the necessary adjustments to its grill and appetizer menus, Ponzu could become a mainstay not just for Aksarben Village neighbors, but for the whole city.

Yes, the review is spot on. Sushi was great, the appetizers sounded great, but still needed some work. I didn't eat anything off the "grill" menu.
