Looks like Lucky's is being prepared for demolition. Expect yet another new apartment building announcement.
Same owner as the cooling new building across from Grace college.

Seems to be true. Developers are looking to re-purpose the site. Not very far along and they seem to be interested in community feedback.

Blue Barn Theatre
Word on the street for some time has been that the Blue Barn Theatre will move to the Lucky's site. The owner, Nancy Mammel, is on the Blue Barn board of directors. It sounds like she may want retail on the first floor with apartments above, although this is apparently is still fluid. I am also told that she has taken out a 4 million dollar building permit for the site although this has not been verified. Rumor has it that she wanted a coffee shop but potential tenants needed a drive-thru arrangement which may not fit the site.

Man, with how fast they are moving on this, I can't believe we haven't seen renderings yet. Has anyone been checking building permits or the city council's agenda?

I wonder if there are any limits on what you can name your LLC? Could I incorporate as "Numbnutz Realty"?

I don't understand how the Blue Barn would have money to build a whole new building for itself when just a few years ago wasn't it in danger of going under?

The Blue Barn Theatre expects to move into a brand-new performance space in time for its 26th anniversary in 2014. But the new building will retain the intimate feel of the group's current space.
The theater has brought on board two nationally known architectural firms to design a 125-seat theater on the southwest corner of 10th and Pacific Streets, formerly the home of Angie's Steakhouse and, more recently, Lucky's restaurant.

I knew this for some time. I work at an appraisal firm here in Omaha. I did some research for the land. The Blue Barn will only take 1/2 of the land while the other 1/2 is planned to be used as flex space (whomever wants to build something there).
I believe 100% this can be moved out of the Rumors section!

I am really looking forward to seeing designs for this theater. The architecture team is definitely not your average firm. I assume the other half would be some attractive land for residential development too.mcarch wrote:I knew this for some time. I work at an appraisal firm here in Omaha. We will break ground on the building—the first stand-alone theater project in Omaha in a generation—in Summer 2013 and complete construction by Fall 2014, in time for the opening of our 26th Season.

Good article from the OWH on the project. To bad we are nearly a year from ground breaking. http://www.omaha.com/article/20121028/L ... 89988/1696
On the design it is certainly interesting. I like it a lot more than the standard marquee on the street type design. I also don't think it translated to to scale size very well. Large beams of wood with light shining through would look pretty cool on 10th.

This project's start date is now spring of 2014. The original architects were fired and now a local AE firm has taken over

This whole block is going to be straight Portland-esque.

How do you transform a 70’ x 100’ section of Omaha’s urban core into a model green space?
That’s the goal of Green in the City, a national landscape design competition set to launch in September. The project, located on the northwest quadrant of the 10th and Pacific block in downtown Omaha, will connect with the future home of the BLUEBARN Theatre. “Green in the City is an opportunity to develop and implement a creative design for open space in Omaha that can inspire other urban communities to follow suit,” said Connie Spellman, director of Omaha by Design.
Omaha by Design, a local urban design and environmental nonprofit, is serving as the project manager for Green in the City, and the Nebraska Arts Council will facilitate the project’s competition process. The winning design team will receive $200,000 to fully implement its vision.
Spellman said a request for qualifications (RFQ) will be available in mid-September. Multidisciplinary design teams from across the country will be encouraged to submit. Those interested in the project will be asked to take the block’s inhabitants into consideration.
In addition to the BLUEBARN, which is scheduled to break ground in the spring of 2014, the block will include Boxcar 10, a new mixed use building developed by Omaha philanthropist Nancy Mammel. Min l Day, an architectural partnership with offices in Omaha and San Francisco, has been hired to design both facilities. Mammel donated the land for the green space and theatre and will provide the lead gift for the Green in the City competition.

Buzzed posting is drunk posting. Yeah that doesn't really mean anything. Just trying to say I am expecting two slick modern designed buildings with a unique green space. The kind of stuff you see in Portland or Seattle a lot.MTO wrote:What does portland-esq mean?
