Does Marriott do anything fancy with lighting on their new building?

With all that glass and the location it's in, I would assume/hope so. I kind of hope they avoid green, we seem to have a lot of green lighting in downtown...

Among all the big things this will bring driving between the Hilton and the Martinet splitting the two on the freeway coming in from CB is one of those little things.

I am expecting a 175 ft building based on the floor height of other new Marriotts that have gone up/are going up. Also I think some white accent lights would be fine, keep it classy.

I wouldn't mind if they did an alternating color scheme, like what they do with FNBT on occasion. Or a light show on a loop, but nothing too over the top.

As a rule of thumb, office stories are taller than residential stories.

There is a JW Marriott u/c in downtown Austin right now that will be 408 feet and 34 floors which comes out to a 12 foot floor average. Based on that it would put us at 168, I rounded up to 175 for maybe a taller lobby and architectural elements above the top floor.RNcyanide wrote:Where does a hotel fit in?thenewguy wrote:As a rule of thumb, office stories are taller than residential stories.

I think that's probably a bit taller than what the final hotel will be.

DTO also did a really nice photoshop a few pages back:

It won't impact the skyline much at all, but it'll certainly (obviously) make a huge impact at street level.

It'll have some impact, since you'll have a clear view of it coming in from Iowa. It's not a 30 story tower, but 13 or so stories will definitely have an impact in making the skyline look a bit "fuller".

Not to mention nearly 3 blocks of development, we get horizontal and vertical in this one.

My previous illiustration was not concerning the height of the building, but concerning the question on the lighting that Marriott has used for its buildings

Perspective from the stadium will give it a decent view. Plus these might be the 4 tallest buildings built downtown since UP Center all in one project.ShawJ wrote:DTO also did a really nice photoshop a few pages back:

What D'Shawn posted was a photoshop I was with him the night he took it. Of course the buildings are copied but everything else was from his photograph. He took it right before he left the reservation.

You know I have to say the board is a lot more easy going now that DTO and Streets no longer frequent this place. I will definitely miss DTOs photography and skills of doing development mock ups but thats about it.

I saw one or two posts from streets in the past, he seems like an anguished idealist of sorts...

I don't think there is a city on the face of the earth that matches streets version of utopia. He was a dedicated space cadet I'll give him that much.

He had opinions and was passionate. Personally I don't have a problem with that. Makes life interesting.
I didn't agree with him sometimes but I respected his passion.
