The Lincoln Pickleman's location is open till at least 2 A.M. every day of the week. I wonder if they would be able to afford to stay open till midnight at least in this building. Downtown could use another late dinning option.

It doesn't look like they are putting any landscaping in the sidewalks, disappointing.

It was absolutely packed today at 1230. Like every table inside and out taken with a really long line still ordering. I have to think we could use a few more lunch options downtown.

Any word on the urgent care opening up anytime soon? Also, the brass entryway that says Barker Building was exposed and looks awesome!

I will try to get an update on the project in the morning. I haven't been in there in a while, so its probably about time to check it out.

Stumbled upon this from Dicon's Facebook page that shows the history of this location:

Image
First building, destroyed by a dropped cigarette that set the building on fire before it was finished.

Image
Second building, destroyed by a cigar that was dropped down an elevator shaft and set the building on fire.

I'd assume they have a pretty strict policy against smoking nowadays.

Thanks for finding, those are both amazing looking buildings....I sure wish at least some architecture looked like that today. I am sick of all the boring facades that all the buildings are using, particularly hotels (Hyatt Place, Hilton Omaha)

The buildings across the street to the east (Jazz, Jimmy Johns, Olympic Lounge) were awesome too until they were "remodeled" in the 50's or 60's.

From what I understand, those buildings were some of the earliest buildings built in the central business district of Omaha.

Perhaps they might be even be able to squeeze in some tax breaks from the city of Omaha?

Even if they have the cash to pay for everything upfront, why would do they that? No real estate mogul became what they became by paying cash upfront for everything.

I know. If they can clean up the Paxton manor, then Barker building is nothing. I used to work at Paxton manor for about 3 months way back when. It was scary.

Last week, on weekday nights after 10pm (I know because I left Scooter's at OM after they closed at 10pm), I went by Pickleman's to give them a try and saw that only 1 person was working, with no customers inside and there was a 'closed' sign at the door.

You missed a key part of my OP. I said Lincoln's was open till at least 2 and was hopeful that this one could stay open decently late.

Six of 48 apartments have been occupied since late August, and property managers are pleased with the interest.

Pickleman's Gourmet Cafe opened four months ago in the ground-floor corner retail bay. Next month, an open-to-the-public Alegent Creighton Clinic and pharmacy is to move into the 2,200-square-foot commercial space along 15th Street. The remaining retail bay that fronts Farnam Street, formerly a longtime Buck's shoe store, is still for lease.
The soon-to-come clinic and pharmacy stand out, developers said, as signs that downtown Omaha is evolving into an area with enough residents to support more service-oriented outlets and nonfood retailers.

I told Royce I think it would look better if they did all three street facing corners. For now they are only doing what you see there.
