McAlister’s Deli has announced the signing of three multi-unit store development agreements with new and existing franchisees for 10 new restaurants in the Greater Tampa, Fla., area; three new restaurants in Central Michigan; and five new restaurants in Lincoln and Omaha, Neb.
The first location will open by early October, with four more planned for the Omaha area, franchisee Bobby Salvo said. Construction is underway on the 5,000 square-foot fast-casual restaurant, which will feature an outdoor patio. McAlister's is known for its sweet tea, sandwiches, spuds, soups and salads.
I just ate at the McAlister's in St. Joe this weekend. Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals, and we commented how it would probably do well in Omaha. Sure, it may be similar to Jason's, but I think it'll be a solid addition to the area and Omaha in general.
Grand Opening yesterday. My wife and I went to day, and it was decent. Nothing I could get overly excited about. Do they have a "tea bar" which I liked. I drink a ton of Ice Tea.
Ate here this afternoon. It will do fine for another Deli with other items on the menu. Nothing fancy. I had the Muffuletta. Good, but the Cole Slaw was great. Lots of Omaha images throughout the building but the third picture I thought was great.

Lots of husker photos, some Omaha photos.... But whatever "effect" they were trying to put on those prints sucks. I have seen some of those photos before and they were cool, but the prints in there were terrible. It's like they put some shitty Instagram filter on them.

Just noticed in this WOWT article that McAlister's is closed.
That's too bad. I have always enjoyed McAlister's when traveling, thought the food was great. Unfortunately, both Omaha locations seemed to be lacking in that great food-they were just OK and not very busy.
I drove by that location a couple hours ago, and there was a moving truck in front and several workers were literally moving and wheeling restaurant items (chairs, tables etc) out...

Ciao.. LiO...Peace
Dang... Its like they didn't want to pay April's rent!
El Vallarta has pretty good food. I used to eat at their LaVista location with some frequency, and they hosted my retirement party there one evening several years back. Seems like only yesterday. lol
We frequent their La Vista and Gretna locations. We enjoy the food and service is always very good. Though, I do wish they had some proper street tacos on their menu.
I hate it when people wander off topic…but here I go…
I would love to see a list of restaurants in Metro Omaha that serve legit Mexican food, including what are called “street tacos” in the US. Mexicans use the term “tacos”.
Reminds me of a conversation my husband overheard a few years back, where a Gringo literally just off the boat (a daytripper from the cruise ship) was complaining to the owner of a street taco stand that his tacos were not to his liking. “Where’s the cheese and the lettuce?” He exclaimed.
The owner replied, in serviceable ingles “Oh, you don’t want tacos! You want Taco Bell! Wrong country, amigo.”
The "authentic" take on food has always amused me a little. Who is to say what is authentic? For example, if you moved to Austria and opened an American Restaurant serving hamburgers, potato salad, and whatnot, then I, an American, came in and ate your potato salad and it tasted nothing like the potato salad I was raised on should I then go online and write some review to the effect of "I am from America, so I know what authentic American cuisine is and this is NOT it." That's the equivalent of what I see from a lot of reviews raging about which Italian or Mexican cuisine isn't authentic (those seem to be the two cuisines that draw the most ire). People will scoff at flour tortillas in a Mexican restaurant not being authentic, but there is actually plenty of literature out there about how flour tortillas are native to northern Mexico. The whole thing is just absurd to me. If it tastes good - eat it. That should be all that matters.

Most of the interior renovation appears to be done. The building formerly housed a McAlister’s Deli. El Vallarta has existing locations in La Vista and Gretna.
Maybe it’s underfunding. Maybe it’s lack of artisans to do remodeling. Maybe it’s an inability to find sufficient employees. Maybe it’s all three. But a great many announced “coming soon” restaurants in Omaha never seem to arrive…at least not in the same year their “coming soon” signs are proudly erected. This is one such place. The Mexican seafood place at 133rd and West Center is another one.

Plus at least 12 months of rent and operating expenses with not one customer. Their other restaurants have to be doing well to able to float these costs.
