That said, Photographically speaking, I think this was the best year yet! While I didn't get the one shot I have always wanted, I think I got everything else and a lot more!
1. This first photo is from Gibbon Road. We arrived shortly before sunrise. We were meeting a couple other guys there and as we drove up, we saw all the cranes lift off. There was still one group west of the bridge so I grabbed a few quick shots of them. This is west looking up the Platte River.
2. This second photo just may be my favorite of the trip. This is about 3 miles east of Gibbon Road. A pair of cranes fly across the rising sun.
3. This third shot is the same location looking west.
4. Same location as the last two but looking a little more north east
5. Same location, just a different exposure.
6. This sixth photo is in the same general area, just a little further after sunrise. I believe its even looking even a little further north.
7. Same road as the past 5 photos, looking north east at ground level.
8. A pair of cranes on "Final Approach". I love how they literally come in for a landing with their flaps and landing gear down.
9. Same general area again as the last 7, but here you have a group of cranes taking off.
10. A pair of cranes glowing in the warm morning light.
11. It didn't take long for the light to go bad, but I managed to salvage this shot out of the bunch.
12. After a while, a few blue sky patches opened.
13. The light went south again, but I tried to stay low and get a few more shots. Here are a few cranes lifting off.
14. Another pair coming in for a landing.
15. Then the blue sky showed up again and I caught these three guy in flight.
After that is was off to Rowe Sanctuary for time in the blind.
16. Nothing like thousands of cranes in flight against the sunset! Facing West
17. Same idea as photo 16, just facing north east for different light.
18. Here a few cranes coming in for the evening.
That's it for day one, now time for day two! We started day two in the blind at Rowe.
