I have not driven by when the amount of cars and foot traffic still surprises me.

I highly doubt he has even been out there.

Every time I go by there to Highway 6, it's been pretty dang busy.

I think if the professor wants to stop with the crude comments and enter a gentlemans bet with me I would be delighted. If in 5 years the Nebraska Crossing Mall is not known to be in trouble then I will change my nic on this forum to whatever the professor wants. If on the other hand the Nebraska Crossing Mall has stores closing and poor crowds and stores loosing money then the professor must change his nic to Gilligan. I just about know I'm right on this did I say that yet?

Sounds like a friendly gentleman's bet between the two cyber curmudgeons.

I'll give it 10 years. Not because of any design flaws. I really like the place and enjoy going there, even though it's a bit out of my way.

....Just because most retail goes stale eventually, without any major overhauls.

If they can do what has been done at Williamsburg Iowa it will be around for a long time. That one is more out of the way that the one in Gretna and it is stronger today that the first time I was there around 25 years ago.

With the way Gretna and the surrounding areas are growing, I have a feeling that this place will be busy for a long while.

Yeah if the one in Williamsburg can last for 25 years being in the middle of nowhere, I agree that with all the growth near Gretna and being between Omaha and Lincoln will help.

My comment wasn't that crude. I have no interest in a gentleman's bet. For all I know you might be right. I was just pointing out that you only seem to comment on things that you think will fail. That's not even a criticism, if that's what makes you happy go for it.

We've been there a few times. Spent money on each visit. I'm not a huge shopper but this place has the right stores that I think will make it successful and prove to be a draw. I like that it's compact and somewhat track like. You can start in one spot, see walk the place and not have to walk past anything you've already been by once you are done.

I went once just before Xmas and it was packed. Once in Jan or Feb on a week night and it was doing OK (better than the malls in Omaha seem to do on weeknights though). Last time we went was after the Spring Game in Lincoln and it was very busy.

I hated the old one. It was brutal. Only went a couple times. Bad stores (started OK and got progressively worse) and horrible layout.

The 10% sales tax or whatever it is kills any deals they might have. I went to buy 4 shirts there with the hope that they were the same price as online. They were each $5 more. I got them online for $100 that would cost me $120 + 10% = $132.

Yeah not every deal in an outlet mall is better than in store or on-line. I got some killer deals at the Columbia outlet that were better than I could find in the stores or on-line (they gave me an extra 10% for joining their free rewards deal), also at Eddie Bauer and Gap Outlet. The Lids store out there did not seem to be any better than the ones in the malls here.

Went by there yesterday. Was surprised how many cars were there for a Monday afternoon. They seemed to be getting some traffic from the interstate.

Is it just me or is it next to impossible to get out of there if you want to go to Lincoln? I stopped in McDonald's on a Sunday morning with no cars in the mall parking lot. I think it took me 5 minutes to make my way around to the north side so I could make a legal turn. Before the mall it was my favorite quick food stop on the way to Lincoln, not anymore.

Went to this mall again today. Place was a ghost town at 5-6pm on a Friday night. This place is flopping worse then I thought it was going to. There were no more then 2 or 3 customers in any store and a lot of them had none. Most of those cars in the lot belonged to employees. The only store that was busy was Auntie Annes pretzels. I don't know what they put in those giant dough pretzels that draws the dingys in like magnets but the dingy I was with got one too! I went next door to Lindts Chocolates and bought 20 dollars worth of salty chocolate balls. I highly recommend this chocolate but its not cheap and I was the only one in the store. They had a couple of promotions going that were a joke too. First there was the booth where you got to spin a wheel full of prizes if you had a receipt from a store. Can you believe you had to spend at least 400 dollars to get to spin the wheel? I never saw anyone spin the wheel the whole time I was there! Then there was the live music er I mean the DJ bro who was playing rap tunes so loud you could hear them all over. This place is in trouble already.

You point out a time when people are eating dinner with their familes or meeting up at the bars for the night. It's not a nightlife center and wasn't designed to be. Its a shopping center and dinner time on a Friday night is not a prime time for that place.

I've gone several times at many random times and it's always been packed. To the point where it makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't like crowds :(

I work part time retail at village pointe and 5-6 is usually a slow time any night. People are traveling home from work, pick up kids, and eating supper/dinner. VP probably has more traffic because there are more places to eat plus a movie theater.

I wonder how many of these Kool-Aid drinking posters here have even spent two nickels at this mall. I wonder how many of these Kool-Aid drinking posters would even crack open their money vaults to buy a newspaper to have noticed the World Herald had a full page ad in it yesterday promoting the deserted mall. I have been to this mall a few times and spent some money there and I even went to the old mall all the time. I don't want this mall to fail but it is what it is.

Oh no, a business is advertising. This surely means that it is failing.

I have indeed spent at least two nickels at this mall. It should be noted, however, that prices have increased a great deal compared the times/era your posts suggest you are used to. We can no longer go down to the "picture show" for a nickel, sadly.

Wait..

It is OK to just admit you don't like the place. I have spent many a nickle there and at the old version too. Until recently I lived right down the road. To say that the place is doomed is really admitting that you have not seen what is going on there. What does the future hold? Who knows. But at this point there is not a single indication of failure.

The Buger Star / Big Cheese now has limited menu of Famous Dave's BBQ as a third option. Sings were up that coming soon is a fourth option for a build to order burrito option. There will be four "names" in the one location now rather than two.

On another note I have my doubts tht Piocracy. The pizza place, will ever open. Ther is no sign that any work has been done inside since paper was put on the windows as the mall opened. Mother ONLY thing that has been done is the signs are up outside the building.

Yes, I was out there tonight. Good number of shoppers, and many of them were carrying bags of purchases!

I don't even live in Nebraska anymore and I've spent more than a nickel there.

I'm curious what Omaha would look like if GRANDPASMUCKER were in charge. I imagine it being mostly Celebrity Homes and Dollar Generals. And the Old Market would be just a Cracker Barrel.

Probably not at NEX. The lack of gang bangs explains the emptiness of the mall at odd hours and will surely lead to its demise in 2 years.
