O Dining (10th and Farnam)

Post by DTO Luv »

Ok, I'm all for another place to dance downtown but is restaurant by day-nightclub at night really the best business model? It sounds good on paper like "Buffet/Strip club" but not really a winning formula. I never went to Irie to eat or club so I can't really say how it was, however I wouldn't want to go to a "club" that rolls away the old coleslaw when I come in blitzed ready to party.

O is by far our favorite Asian food in Omaha.

If you want casual and great views sit upstairs!

Reminds me of the Diamond Cabaret & Steakhouse in downtown Denver.... just around the corner from the convention center. 8)

O Dining and Lounge is closing. Their last day in business will be Saturday. It sounds like it is a family decision. I walked by there last week and noticed a for sale/lease sign and was wondering if they were closing.

These things really bum me out.

I help transition businesses for a living (business broker) and I hate seeing when restaurants just close their doors. I have a ton of buyers looking to purchase restaurants. This one and The Smoke Pit would have sold in a second for sure.

Maybe so, but some owners don't want the family secret recipe out to anyone but family, and if the next generation doesn't want to take over.....

I loved O and made friends with the staff and owners. Unfortunately this is an example of bad marketing. The back of their building faced the cities largest tourist traffic area. What did it say? O casual dining. Everybody thought it was a diner. How about "O" Old Market Asian?? LOVED their food. They will be missed.

No idea what will happen next. Running a restaurant can be really hard work so I wouldn't blame them if it's taking a toll. I have no knowledge of their business's innerworkings so obviously anything I say here is general rather than specifically about O.

I can respect not wanting the family secrets to get out. I think just closing the doors is undervaluing all the work someone has put into building a business. Not saying they didn't do what was right for them at the time, but I think also people don't realize they could sell their business and get a big check and still be able to not have to work there anymore. Building something is hard and entrepreneurs don't always want to start from scratch... but I digress.

Omaha's best (only?) Velvet Chicken, RIP. :(

Apparently this building sold the other day. I don't know any details other than I heard (third or fourth hand) that it sold.

Shahi Indian Grill is headed to the Old Market. The restaurant, which has locations in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Sioux City, Iowa, will open at 1015 Farnam St. It will be located in the former O Dining and Lounge, which announced its closure last month.
