Why spend energy to knowingly being negative? Seems like an awful waste of time that could be filled doing other things that make you happy. 8)

Edit: Even though their division affiliation might imply they are quite a bit weaker than the Huskers its important to realize that the Sams QB they played most of the game was on K State last year and played well but wasn't getting the playing time he wanted. Also Mcneese St is predicted to have a good chance at winning the D1AA National Championship this year. Obviously the Husker team didn't give a flying hoot playing this lesser team that they were favored to win by 5 TD's leading to a lackluster performance. I am not paying too much attention to the game today as indication of anything to come.

For me? Oh. I enjoy watching the implosion that is Nebraska football. It's like going to a Nascar race and seeing <<insert disliked driver here>> crashing. You enjoy watching the race, but by golly if that driver hits the wall, it's even better.

FCS is FCS. Although 95% of the reason the game was close was because of Nebraska's failures, not because of McCheese State.

Well I do admire how cynical you are spending time watching to root against a team just isn't my thing. I do agree that FCS is FCS but having a D1 QB and many of the players who just barely miss the rosters of LSU, Bama, Auburn etc has to count for something. I wouldn't say they are that much less talented based on where they are located. We couldn't put the game away and thats on us.

Watching college football to watch college football. Again, if the driver hits the wall, it's even better (like watching Ohio State -Virginia Tech now). I would say that you have some teams, like NDSU, who are clearly above and beyond most FCS teams (I think this comes down to coaching), I really just didn't see much from MSU that would indicate they are talented enough that they should have competed with a FBS team. You can try to justify the close game as much as you want if it helps you sleep tonight, but if Nebraska had lost, it would have been a Michigan/Applachian State moment that would damage the program rather horridly. Heck, the media outlets are having a field day with just the close game.

I don't think theres much difference between the top teams in FCS and mid level teams in FBS now.. in the past it was obvious how different the talent level was but not anymore. Another thing I thought of recently is back in the 'old days' you didn't have social media and message boards to distract/inflate the egos of the players and it seems as if the Nebraska athletic program has emphasised the use of it the last few years. If they lost today it wouldn't have changed my love for the Huskers at all.. I don't need validation from the National Sports news ;). Last year we saw Bo go nuclear in the Iowa game and nearly get himself fired after an entire season of unnecessary calls for him to be fired. For once I would like to see a Husker season where the fans enjoy the season even if there are a few close call games and not act like entitled Dbags longing for the reincarnation of TO.

Now this I agree with entirely. :) HUG IT OUT *hug*....Well, minus the love for the Huskers and all. My point wasn't about your perception/fandom/love being validated, but rather the national perception...which, like it or not is very important when it comes to things like recruiting. These close shaves against lower tier opponents are not good (better than a loss mind you), and no matter if MSU is a "good" FCS team, they are still a lower division (scholarship wise, talent wise, and resource wise).

Also, I will say that after watching the post game press conference on the news, Bo handled himself much better than he did in previous years. Well, from the snipits I heard/saw.

Funny you should mention Tom Osborne. He was at the game today watching from the skybox seats. He didn't look too happy about how things were going.

After the day that the Big Ten had, it looks like the media have already written the whole conference off.

It wasn't a very good day for the Big 10 overall yesterday. Yeah, we didn't play very well. I won't argue with that. But I can guarantee you that Michigan had a worse day than we did. They got shut out by Notre Dame 31-0.

Does anybody remember Nebraska's game against South Dakota State back in 2010 when we were still in the Big 12? We narrowly defeated them 17-3 but we still went on to play in the Big 12 Championship game (which we sadly lost) despite the fact that our performance was just as sloppy as it was on Saturday.

I was at that SDSU game. Saturday's game was nothing compared to that game. It was nit sloppy. Beck's play calling was just horrendous. The first half we had decent plays, but I have no clue what he was trying to do the second half. NU having multiple three and outs against an FCS team was ridiculous. Throwing the way we were with Bell and Turner on the sidelines... Inexcusable.

What I thought was interesting was the almost-upset over Iowa!

Oh, don't get me started on that :grr:
Ameer only getting 8 touches the second half? Imani 3 carries for 1 yard? Not one zone read by Tommy? Not one throw to a TE?

Kenny Bell and Jamal Turner unfortunately got injured. That's why they were sidelined. Sadly, Turner's done for the season and Bell is "day to day" according to Bo. He may still play on Saturday against Fresno.

I guess my point was that their name seems to imply one of those weakling teams but they are in fact a pretty decent team.

Still feeling like the sports writers are unnecessarily punishing us in the polls.. even though we didn't lose they have us ranked behind other teams that have losses? Oh well it seems Sports have evolved into a popularity contest now.

Looks like Randy Gregory will be playing on Saturday. That's going to be a very late game. It starts at 9:30 PM.

A good thing. The daytime high temp for the area is forecast at 104 deg F for Saturday.

Just to be clear, 9:30 Central time. 7:30 Pacific. Usually, for Husker games, I walk down to Randy's on 48th and Holdrege and watch, but I won't be doing that this week. Don't want to be out after midnight.

Do you suppose KPTM will pull out all the stops to cover this one??

Monty Torres doing a report from inside the stadium... albeit, oddly sporting cardinal and blue colors.

Can't say for sure. But Fox won't be broadcasting the game itself. It'll be on CBS Sports Network. It's on Channel 158 on Dish. I don't know if DirecTV gets it. If they do, I don't know what channel they have it on.

So if you have Dish, then go ahead and set your DVRs to Channel 158 at 9:30 PM.

I don't get it.. yes we struggled against Mcneese St and moved down which I wasn't so upset about.. But we blew the doors off that Fresno St team and we still move down? and are still ranked below teams with losses? Something doesn't smell right this year.

It is fashionable to down grade the Big 10 in the sports world right now. USC gets schooled by BC and they are still a better team since they beat Stanford.

Well thats a slippery slope towards CFB becoming a complete joke.. in the past it didn't matter what conference you were in you could stand on your achievements.. wins were wins. It feels to me like ESPN has an agenda to promote the SEC now that the Playoffs are a Committee selection rather than a Poll based selection.. so the more they boost up the SEC the better chances they have at getting 2 teams into the Playoffs since of course ESPN anaylsts have votes in said Committee. Also by trumpeting that a certain team of a certain conference has no chance at the playoffs they are manipulating the end of season results. ESPN has gotten so bad with its obvious bias that unless a game is being aired I refuse to watch that garbage.

Teams above you lost and dropped down, other teams reshuffled (also due to the late time frame, I have my doubts whether or not the pollsters were actually even paying attention). It happens often and isn't something to panic about, so reeeelaxxxxxxx. If Nebraska beats Miami, it will solve itself out.

I'm not panicking. I'm just confused and a bit ticked. But I do expect Miami to be a challenge.

How does that 'culture' remain so consistent... through so many decades, different coaching regimes. Is it the school overall... the community??
