Pics aren't that great, too damn humid, but thought I'd share. Hey Ryan, got any pics from along the 1st base line in Sec Taylor I mean Principle Park? :)

Gotta give credit where its due. I love DMs skyline too. Please no DM vs O battles please. :)

Nice shots. Yeah, it sucks taking pictures during the day this time of year with all the haze.

I don't have any pictures of the skyline from the 1st base line, but I know there are several sites out there that feature photos of minor league ballparks, and this angle is shown.

Your first photo is the first one from that angle I've ever seen with the completed Wells Fargo amongst the skyline. You can see them doing the prep work and utilities for the riverwalk too. The silver dome to the left of the last photo is the IMAX for the new Science Center of Iowa.

No DM bashing here. It's a great skyline, and great shots of it too. Very impressive. I need to get over there and check it out. I haven't been to DM in a few years. Now if only I could get a day off....

Ooo, that's some nice density there.

I've never actually been to downtown Des Moines, only in the sprawl of the suburbs.

Nice pics. I took some similar shots in Des Moines and know what DMRyan means about the haze.

I like the way they light up most of their buildings. And not just flood lights either. It does look pretty dense since all of the buildings are close together.

I noticed when I was in DSM 2 weeks ago, it feels much more dense in their DT than in DTO, It might just be all the skywalks connecting every building. We also went to a cool bar in DT DSM called the Royal Mile, they had a great patio in the alley between 2 bars, really cool. They also had PBR, Shlitz, and Hams on special.

The Royal Mile is an awesome bar, and one of my favorites in downtown! Did you make it to the upstairs bar called the Red Monk? They've got a type of beer that's brewed by a Tapestry of Monks, and is imported from Holland. Apparently it's only available in two place in Iowa, but it costs $14 for a very large can. I haven't tried it myself, I'd rather stick to the PBR.

As far as the feeling of density, I think a lot of the major street in downtown Des Moines aren't as wide as they are in Omaha. This gives more of a canyon feel, even if it only lasts for a couple of blocks.

No, we had a larger group and just stayed out on the patio, however that is one of my favorit patios, wedged right in between three old brick buildings.

That's a fun street to hang out on, and those bars usually get a more eclectic crowd than what you would find at a West Des Moines nightclub. At the Royal Mile, it's pretty common to have a techno or indie rock concert at the bar next door, while getting hit up by some panhandlers that hang out in the street---all while sitting on the patio.

I like the design of whatever that tallest building is. Omaha's next sky scraper should be in that style.

OMG! We'd never hear the end of it on how our building looks like theirs.

I think DTDM looks more dense because all of the major buildings are right next to each other. Ours are more spread out.

Took these today, from the NE of DT. Again, damn this weather. Is it freaking hot enough yet? Makes me want to move to Vancouver. :)

As much as I like the 801 Grand (tallest) building, I don't wanna see some knockoff of it in O. I wanna see something different like a triangle footprint glass tower with a angular peak or something. Maybe a circular footprint. Even if they must stay with a square-rectangle shaped building, maybe turn it to an angle to the street grid ala the 25 story condo tower in DM. Something to shake up the geometry of things in DTO.

Great pics. I like the view from the southeast the best. As much as I like DT DM (I've got great memories from college), it doesn't feel as cosmopolitan.. and I know that's probably not the right word, but the layout and feel of Omaha's suits my eye a little better.

Speaking of density without all the height, I wish I had pics of DT Milwaukee. You'd never guess it was a 1.5M metro. Feels twice that.

On another note, the suburbs are hellish and embarrasing. A stiff breeze would blow most of them over. Can you say Celebrity? Definitely not attractive, and I don't understand how they demand so much money. Oh well. Time marches on.

DMRyan or Ingersoll1978

Do either of you have picture of those cool bridges they are building over the interstate on the way in to downtown?
