But it makes sense actually. With the cancer center in particular, you're going to have a lot of long term patients in the area.

Do we know what is going in on 40th and Leavenworth? The lot is torn up and there is an MCL construction trailer on site.

It was an abandoned dilapidated car wash there. Don't know what they're doing with it though.iamjacobm wrote:Do we know what is going in on 40th and Leavenworth? The lot is torn up and there is an MCL construction trailer on site.

Could you be more specific? I assume you mean on the north side of Leavenworth, west side of 40th? Where a parking lot used to be?iamjacobm wrote:Do we know what is going in on 40th and Leavenworth? The lot is torn up and there is an MCL construction trailer on site.

I guess technically the southeast corner of 39 and Leavenworth, near the Field Club trail head. The right eastbound lane of Leavenworth was closed yesterday for it so that was the first thing that popped into my head.Coyote wrote:Ok, now what did you mean, where on the south side of Leavenworth was torn down?JDJase wrote:Oh sorry, I thought you were referring to the south side (which was just torn down yesterday I believe)

Think that is where the outpatient surgery specialty clinic is being built.

Outpatient center will be West of where the Eye center is (the block that Pauli's bar was on).

Re: University of Nebraska Medical Center
Hi all,
Been following the forum for a while but figured I would add an account and contribute. I'm a second year med student at UNMC so we get a lot of scoop on happenings around here. This is the rendering for the ambulatory surgical center, should have 4ish operating rooms and be the new home of orthopedics and other surg departments. I don't think it is completely accurate scale-wise, but it gives a good idea of the look. Pharmacy school will be right behind it.

Could you orient that photo with street positioning for us? Is that pic looking north off of Leavenworth?

Happy to help! Yes, my gut instinct tells me that it is looking north from Leavenworth. It should end up being oriented just like the ophthalmology clinic next door.

Ok, thanks...
So it will be in between the Sorrell Center and the Student Life Center just south of the 'ice rink'.The ambulatory surgical center will be located at the corner of 41st and Emile streets, and is projected to open in the fall of 2016.
Current plans for the center include a 3-story, 100,000 square foot structure that will house 10 surgery suites, as well as in-house radiology to support surgical and clinical needs.

Also, found this:
NU Regents will be meeting on Sept 19 to approve the following:
"The naming of the new ambulatory clinic building the “Lauritzen Outpatient Center” and the outpatient surgery section of the building the “Fritch Surgery Center” at UNMC. (Addendum IX-B-2)"

The new college of Pharmacy will be South of the ice rink. The outpt center will be across the street, south of it. The building will face South like the eye center. And as the 2nd year med student said, expect A LOT of changes and new construction on the campus. While i personally dont have access to the top level meetings, i have friends who do and some of the things that are planned are really big.

Also, from what I've gathered, the outpt center will have quite a few more OR suites.

Re: University of Nebraska Medical Center
That is the point of the building. To move outpatient surgeries into that building and out of the main ORs. This will free them up for inpt surgery and support of high acuity patients.MSizlack wrote:Also, from what I've gathered, the outpt center will have quite a few more OR suites.

It was mentioned that it would have "4ish" OR suites. The last number I heard was 12. I haven't heard if they will close down the old OR when the outpt center opens.

The image of the new ambulatory care center view is looking to the West. The building will also have 2 or 3 stories of underground parking.

I like it. I also like how it's all been privately funded.

Re: University of Nebraska Medical Center
Overall I like the look of the building, but why does every new building need to have the same look as the Holland Center. Can't we get away from the square and rectangular buildings. I wish they could design something more like the new Children's Hospital in Iowa City

This was the original rendering for the Children's hospital, which looks a lot like Omaha's. Glad they went with the above design.

Curved buildings have a lot of wasted space. Childrens in Omaha is a classic example.

Yet another construction project.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is adding a new 6,525-square-foot addition and 11,845 square feet renovation to two floors of the Student Life Center building at 40th and Jones streets.
The $6 million redevelopment and expansion project was approved by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents at its May meeting and made possible by a donation by Omaha philanthropists Ruth and Bill Scott.

Re: University of Nebraska Medical Center
Has UNMC issued another campus master plan yet? The current one was focused on 2006-2015, and a lot has happened since then. I'm interested to see what they have planned for the old Omaha Steel Castings property.
I imagine they're pretty busy with all the current projects, though. This has to be the busiest period of construction on the campus in decades, if not ever.

There is a third tower crane going up at UNMC. This tower crane is east of 42nd St. near 40th on top of the hill.

Either way, that's crazy. There's a lot of great activity in this area!
