Nebraska Basketball 2015-2016

Post by nebugeater »

KFAB is reporting this AM that the press conf for today has been postponed. Petteway's Mother passed away and lost her battle with cancer last night and he is heading back home.
Thoughts and prayers for the Petteway family.

There is also astory at the OWH

LINCOLN — Joetta Petteway, mother of Nebraska All-Big Ten basketball player Terran Petteway, died late Tuesday night after a 2½-year battle with a rare form of tissue cancer.
That development means Wednesday’s press conference for Petteway to reveal his decision on whether to return to NU for his senior season or turn professional has been postponed until next week.

While we were away Nebraska point guard Tarin Smith announced he is transferring. He was a Freshman last season with some playing time in every game I believe.

Also while the board was down forward Walter Pitchford with one year of eligibility announced he was leaving the team. First he stated that he was leaving basketball and staying in school to finish his degree and graduating from UNL next year. A couple of days later he stated he was declaring for the NBA draft. Either way the results will likly be the same as I do not see him anywhere near the draft picks.

Nebraska was also picked to end up 13th in the B1G next season, just ahead of Rutgers.

Here is the article:

Dienhart: Super-early predicted order of finish for 2015-16 Big Ten hoops

1. Maryland
2. Michigan St.
3. Indiana
4. Michigan
5. Wisconsin
6. Ohio St.
7. Purdue
8. Illinois
9. Iowa
10. Northwestern
11. Minnesota
12. Penn St.

13. Nebraska. Tim Miles will try to rebound from a disappointing season. Having Terran Petteway return for his senior season would help Miles, who already has seen Tarin Smith and Walter Pitchford leave early. David Rivers is graduating. Shavon Shields will be a building block along with Benny Parker and Tai Webster.

14. Rutgers

Poor kid, it's tough enough being away from home for college...and just being a kid in general...but to add this on top of it all. I wonder how this impacts his Pro decision?

Last man off the ship gets to go down with captain Miles. There was no decision to be made here. After this year Petteway's draft value now is sketchy and after another loosing season he might be worth even less.

Me either. As far as pure talent goes this is easily the most talented team NU has had since the mid 1990s.

Are Creighton and Nebraska really playing on a Wednesday night? Usually that game is scheduled for a Sunday afternoon.

Miami and Rhode Island aren't bad, plus you'll have a bunch of Big 10 name games. All teams nowadays have a |expletive| ton of the throwaway money makers.

Exactly, there were some bad ones in there during the Collier era. Last year's home football schedule was truly awful.

I'm not sure if you are sticking up for the schedule or just saying there have been worse. How about that is a really really bad home basketball schedule then? Why would anyone drive from Omaha or anywhere else to see those teams when they will be on TV? I get you need a few money games but 7 of 9 games? If I was a season ticket holder I'd complain because they deserve better than that.

I am not defending the schedule. It could be a lot better. There have been a lot worse.

I will be driving to every game I can get to as a season ticket holder since 1999. Until last year when work got in the way more than usual I missed on average one home game a year. Think I missed four last year. This should be one of the more fun years to be in the area. On paper, and we know that doesn't hold a lot of value, this could be the most talent the Huskers have had on the court since the Nee era. Only time will tell if they gel into a team and I want to be there to see it.

No cut intended on the team or its fans. If I remember correct they had top 15 attendance last year. Just saying the fans deserve better and if the team is good so do they. Boring for the fans and does not prepare the team for how tough the Big 10 will be.

Actually, top 10 in attendance last year. Actually Nebraska was the only school to finish in the top 10 in attendance for football and basketball.

Not the best home schedule but I will get down to as many games as possible. Don't have season tickets but wish I did.

Are you really expecting the Jays home schedule to be THAT much better? Thus far your scheduled games are what North Texas, Nebraska, ASU, Howard and Central Arkansas? I'm guessing you are expecting the last 3 or so games yet to be scheduled to be all solid teams?

Nebraska is in Creightons home non con schedule. Again, are you expecting the Jays to draw some big names with those last 3 games? Miami and RI will be fringe top 25 teams to start the year. Outside of that the home schedule is very weak. But also needed to allow an inexperienced team to gel.

I'm fine with NU's non-conference schedule.

One thing I'd love to see NU do is reach out to Wichita State. Maybe one in Lincoln, one at Wichita and one in KC.

Yeah I'm surprised they don't. I remember Wichita State stating they wanted the series to continue once CU left the Valley. CU does not have a true rival anymore, so this would be good to see. That being said I'd love to see NU start playing them. They already play in baseball, would be nice to add basketball. After Kansas, Wichita State is the next best team in the region.

Let's keep this on track. Last season there was a good job of keeping the CU and NU basketball talk in their own threads. Lets not derail this before the first tip of the year.

OK back to Nebraska. I'd like for it to be Wichita State (Iowa State or Mizzou would be good options as well, Kanas would decline), for NU to play a neutral site game at Sprint Center. Would be a fun little trip for fans. They host a bunch of these down there.

They need to set up a Midwest Tourney:

Nebraska, Bitchita State, Iowa State, Iowa, Mizzou, Kansas, Minnesota, Creighton.

Alternate sites between Minneapolis and Kansas City.

Add K-State and UNI for a ten team! That would be an amazing annual tournament and would draw a ton of attention.

Makes no sense for a team to risk a loss in a tough venue to a program that would look like a "bad" loss.

What sucks is that I don't think the BE/B1G series guarantees a return trip. Getting Nova to Lincoln would of been a big one.
