When you post process your photos for web, size them somewhere in the 1000 to 1200 pixle range and they will show up just fine.

There was a mod before that automatically resized photos that were too big. As of now, there are no mods installed. But after the upgrade, things will eventually get installed.

ROCK ON! Apparently Shamrock isn't in charge of updating the site. It now looks and works like it was designed in Cupertino.

Hi, first time here! My parents and grandparents called Omaha home for many years. I am looking for old photos of the buildings that were located on the northwest corner of 16th and Nicholas. i was up in Omaha last weekend and it is just a fenced off field now, but this was were my grandfather had a bar/tavern. He had a grill next door (previously a bakery). He had it from the 40s or 50s into the early 70's. Even if the photos are before or after that time I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If the forum doesn't turn out very fruitful for you there is a historic society with a library of these things you can try to hook up with.

Here is the building that was still standing on the NW corner of 16th and Nicholas sometime around the late 70's/early 80's:

Here's what that corner looks like today:

A billboard advertising phone books. Haven't seen that for a while. Like an old movie prior to cell phones.
The fire hydrant looks like an original though.

I had found this picture which was supposed to be close to 16th and Nicholas, and now after seeing the pictures from Mr Omaha I am comfortable it is the same building!

Perhaps, but I think there is still demand for mid-level apartments in or near downtown from young professionals who cannot afford high end places like the wire and the highline. I think eventually the apartment boom will slow down (hopefully it won't bust), and apartment developments like these will be very popular. Big win for this part of town.

That building is impressively large for the area. It will be nice to see that area filling out more.

Also found on the Anant website. The top two floors of this will be full service corporate extended stay rooms.

I noticed this on the website as well. It was reported that this would be apartments but the website now indicates it will be "extended stay corporate housing" does anyone actually know... are we looking at apartments or an extended stay hotel here? It appears to have changed use in the construction process.

from the website http://anantops.com/portfolio/ "Nichol Flats Corporate Extended Stay Housing - Omaha
Opening November 2015 in Downtown Omaha
Using top two floors of Nichol Flats boutique apartment project and marketing as full service 30+ day extended stay corporate housing
UNDER CONSTRUCTION"

This is the original OWH report. http://www.omaha.com/news/holiday-inn-o ... evelopment

Brad, thank you so much for these photo updates. I live out of town and don't get to go back to Omaha much, so seeing these pictures and the progress is really fun for me. The overall quality on this board is really incredible.

I agree, thanks for all the photo updates today. It is great to get a picture reference for all these projects. Made me realize how much construction is really happening in the downtown and west downtown areas.

You're welcome! I wish I was able to do it more often, but I was just so busy this winter and with the short days, something had to go... Between my schedule clearing up a bit and longer days soon, hope to keep up a little better.

This new style of apartment buildings is looking pretty eastern European. The blah factor is setting in.

Agreed, these look like |expletive|. I imagine some ill-informed real estate developers read somewhere that urban housing is trendy and didn't bother to find out why. Instead they figured they can build the same Celebrity Homes style junk and that'll suffice.

I hope they're not expecting much more than Creighton students to want to live here.
