From the rooftop of the First National Tower and more

I was in town last weekend and took some photos while in downtown.
Unexpectedly, I was also able to get a tour of the First National Tower rooftop.
And as promised, some aerials from the flight back to Denver.

Zephyr- Those were some awesome shots on the skyscraperpage. Even enjoyed the nice pics from the volleyball matches this past weekend.

Thanks for the info, Harpoon. I am surprised I had not heard of him, but I have heard of the Geography of Nowhere (I need to brush up more on my planning reading I guess!).

guy4omaha and Omaha Cowboy - thank you for the compliments, I am glad you liked it so much. We definitely need the reppin!

Swift - the person said that the new tower has been drawn up and engineered... but I wonder where it would be, how tall, and how soon they want it? If FNB would just close its western campus and relocate downtown, they could build 2 more towers! Time will tell.

And an observation - notice the last "A" in OMAHA is out at the Qwest Center Omaha - has the World Herald been trying to rename that place AGAIN?!?

Zephyr, what kind of camera do you have?

Also seeing the Doubletree up close reminds me of the facade renovation that was suposed to take place. Anyone have any info?

Thanks, nebport - I have a Canon Powershot S1 IS, which has 3.2 megapixels and 10X optical/32X digital zoom.

And the latest rumor I have heard on the DoubleTree is that it will be torn down and 16th Street will be reconnected! ;)

Actually, the Doubletree was recently sold by Boykin Hospitality to another REIT. The new REIT owns the building but Boykin Hospitality still manages the property as a Doubletree franchise.

I just heard this "rumor" as well last night, by a person who has major connections, im thinking it is going to happen. I think its a bittersweet proposal however. Lots of economic benefits to 16th street, and the building is rather ugly, but demolition isnts something i like to hear when it comes to downtown

And most of all you got the picture of "your bridge" from atom the FNB tower

Nice Pics, It will be cool when we get out on that bridge and take a picture back towards omaha. We will have to be careful though, its close to the prision so someone might get a little worried if two guys are out there snooping around!
