Why not? They have the space and its probably affordable.

I can see The Wall Street Tower putting together a showroom, so people could see in what they were investing, but hotel rooms?

I think its just something they do so everyone is on the same page, work out details, and just get one last look before they finish 200 rooms or whatever the hotel is.

In the end, all they are really out is some studs, drywall and paint. All the furniture and fixtures could be moved to the hotel if they wanted.

Right. Mock-ups are often done for things like exterior wall systems, hotel & hospital rooms, etc. It's a way to make sure the contractor is building things up to the specified standards, confirm material selections and colors, or even give the owner a chance choose some available options. A small 1-story section partial mock-up of the FNB tower wall system was done on site before they started cladding the whole thing. Sample walls are also often required on masonry walls to make sure the mason is installing all of the necessary components correctly and to verify the owner is happy with the look. For the TD Ameritrade Tower in Old Mill, mock-ups of the raised floor systems, cubicle furniture, carpet, etc. from competing manufacturers were set up in another vacant Old Mill building for the owner to choose which selections they wanted to use. It's common practice.

Thanks. That would make sense in a quality project. I had never heard of this practice though...

Baxer Arena and Think both had exterior Mock-ups too.

Tons more steel arrived on site today for the west tower. Next week should see visible vertical progress! On the east side it looks like most of the backfill around the foundation is complete, and the hill they were taking the backfill from is gone so better views of the west tower construction.

I bet if you look around the construction site you can find the start of mock-ups for the exteriors of the buildings. They will probably be in some out of the way place, probably near the construction offices.

That makes absolutely no sense. I stay in Marriott properties 30 or more times a year. There is absolutely nothing memorable about them. Other than their sameness.

You can show a person a picture of a room as many times as you like, but 10 times out of 10 when selling a room block someone will ask to physically see the room. This allows them to do that and secure business without having to trot a group contact into a construction zone.

The rendering looks like the first floor at that corner is set back a little. Probably just too early to tell.

I was thinking the same until the last few days when they installed all the pylons on the south part of the hotel building. I was wondering if the building was going to go further south. I am with Brad on this one, I just think it is part of the construction process, they haven't gotten all the pylons in yet. On the southeast corner, it doesn't appear that there is going to be too much other than the pylon and glass.

The developer is building the mock-up guest rooms in the Mastercraft building so that Marriott executives can come into town pick and choose what they want to be the final product in their actual hotel.

Technically, they are columns. Pylons are typically used to support bridge spans and high-voltage power lines. They can also be found in the four corners of an end zone. Also, it's more accurate to say they are pouring concrete, since Portland cement is just one of the ingredients of concrete. (sorry...just two of my pet peeves

)

When I was down there the other day, the first thing I noticed is how high the second floor sits in relation to 480. I think this is going to stick up a lot higher than people realize. This site really sits up compared to the Hilton.
