I think I read somewhere (Brad) that this is somehow connected with Garden Café or Wheatfields... Found out it has been around for maybe 15 years. It reminds me of a Perkins or more of a Wheatfields with their Potato Casseroles. I had the Farmhouse Casserole and it was decent, but what makes this also more like Wheatfields is their bakery (should have got a shot of that), and you get one of their muffins with your meal. Decent place, maybe deserves a visit every now and the... better than Perkins.

I can't remember which came first, Clark's Cafe on Cass around 76th or Gargen. Clark Pflanz (sp) was one of the first. It's interesting how many of these kids there are/were. Clark's, Garden, Summer Kitchen, Farmhouse, Wheatfields....

For a time, it looked to be a breakout concept and there were locations in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and maybe elsewhere.

It proves how hard it is to succeed and maintain growth in this business.

I ate lunch here Monday. Had the French Dip and onion rings and some German chocolate cake. When I walked in the place was packed with old timers and it smelled like B.O. bad. I think the air ventilation in that old strip mall building is not equipped to deal with a room full of old people who probably did not take a shower that morning. My French dip came on a Rotella's hoagie bun which to me is lame when I am at a place that calls itself a bakery. My onion rings were frozen rings and not fresh hand made. The cake was 5 bucks for 1 piece and it was good but nothing to write home about. All in all I think I am 1 and done with this place. I would go back if someone dragged me but I hope to eat here again no time soon.

I'd pick Wheatfields over Farmhouse 10 times out of 10. It's much better.

I don't think Ron Popp lost the Garden Cafe to a divorce. Cindy ran off with a baker long before Ron lost the Garden Cafe. It was my understanding that he was forced out in some kind of fashion. They still kept Cindy's Creamy Tomato Soup on the menu too. And he seated us last year at the Wheatfields at One Pacific Place. I guess I'm not surprised he is still on the floor working. I wonder if he still yells at his cooks. We used to have two lines wrapped around that building at Rockbrook on Saturdays and Sundays. That place was rockin'.

I'd have to agree with that, although the one time I went, Farmhouse had pretty good breakfasts.

The breakfasts are good, and popular on weekends. I don’t much care for the food otherwise. The place is rather tired inside.
