Alright! I was waiting for the first post in the wake of the season arriving. I really cannot wait to see the new team in action. If the first game goes as you think, then that's a good sign. Ever since our team joined the Big Ten, the season opener has been less than what we expect it to be - a total beat down. Anything around the 50+ to less than 7 range should be very refreshing.

If the first string can get a burst of scores done and the second string can keep the momentum going to half time, then they and the third string will keep Akron out of it (44-10 sounds right). If the first string is playing the whole game, then they will tire out, but win, though Akron will keep it close (35-28).

Remember folks, never bet on Nebraska where a point spread is involved. The bookies use your emotional attachment against you.

How's his throwing motion and footwork?

I'm hoping his play resembles Taylor Martinez in no way and there won't be an issue calling his name. But i do bet it'll happen at some point between the radio and the FOX commentators.

I don’t think he thought of it that way but he should have. He is one injury away from being THE quarterback.

Having more than one QB capable of starting at a D-1 school is a good problem to have. Although it sucks not to have that kind of quality at back-up anymore, I think this is something we'll have to get used to in the future. I think we'll have a fierce battle for the #1 spot every year, and the one they don't take will split. We just have to hope coaches make the right decision, which, I think they will.

I hope Gebbia stays in-conference, or even in-division. That would make for a great story, which I would hope works in our favor.

After talking to some die hard Huskers fans that understand why he might leave -- there are two sides to the issue. I thought he was this close to being the QB if martinez gets hurt BUT also if Martinez gets hurt he will probably always be the backup. As someone posted elsewhere --- he could have waiting until the end of the year to transfer but he would have lost this year and he has already been out one year. So going somewhere now - he is eligible next fall

They sucked Gebbia into coming here by promising him that come game day he would be the man. Once he got here he found out that Martinez was being promised he was going to be the man too. Gebbia went to the coachs and said hey this is B.S. you promised me that I was going to be the man. The coaches said you are going to be the man but you have to compete in practice and make a good showing and at the end of the day you will be the starter. Gebbia went back and talked to his family and peeps and they decided that he would play along with the story but come the start of the season if they find out hes not the starter then he is packing up and leaving town.

One problem with part of the story -- Gebbia has been here for a year. He was recruited by Riley. Also he was recruited as being a QB for a different type of offense. Martinez didnt come in until January and recruited for Frost's offense. Although I can see the last part of your scenario being true.

Its looking like there'll be a pretty darn good chance this game will be a rain game, as well as a good chance it could be delayed because of lightning. Not an ideal way to start the season, but obviously, we'll see what happens.

I have loved the enthusiasm surrounding the opener, but dang, I have a hard time convincing myself it wont be greatly effected by the weather. I honestly think the game will be any combination of delayed, postponed, cancelled, or forfeited. It probably won't be the coming out party we'd hoped for. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it plays out.

14 minute delay at the start.....no big deal don't worry Akron is not getting out of here without a serious whooping.

Now we got a half hour delay on top of that 14 minutes.......You were right this is starting to be a real stinker for those fans in the stadium real fast.

Eh, they didn't know this would happen months ago. Behind Michigan at ND (and since NBC has rights to ND), this was the most anticipated B1G game FOX could air, so they put it in the night slot. I think they made the right decision, it just didn't work out.
