I honestly think the game will be any combination of delayed, postponed, cancelled, or forfeited. It probably won't be the coming out party we'd hoped for. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it plays out.

Flash forward to December 1st. One of the worst case scenarios for Husker fans has played out, and Nebraska sits at 5 and 6.
Wonder the commotion then.

Even a big fat dumb old fool like me knew there was no way they were going to play on Sunday. It never has worked that way but the professionals at Fake News 3 bought in to it like children. Everyone but the Fake News knows it does not work that way. It does not matter if it was a concert or a football game. They made their money and that is what it is all about and there is no way they are going to spend a bunch of more money and time just to make the fans happy.Uffda wrote: Sun Sep 02, 2018 8:12 amThey were reporting what Fox was reporting.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sat Sep 01, 2018 10:36 pm Fake News 3 said the game is tomorrow then they came on at the end of the newscast and said they made a mistake the game is never.![]()

I know you just love to use the words Fake News but again they reporting what Fox was saying. It wasn’t until 10:29 (which would be at the end of their News cast) that NU made it official that the game was canceled.

What really happened is after the long, highly anticipated build-up since Frost came back as coach, everyone wanted the game to happen so bad that they were ready to believe anything, even the game being played on Sunday at 10:30am, which kind of made sense, if people could wait another 12 hours.
It had absolutely nothing to do with "fake news". The only "Fake news" is on Fox (faux) News, not their sports channels.

“That ticker crawl so many Husker fans saw on channel FS1 of their TVs — that Nebraska and Akron would resume their game at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, was not exactly a mistake. What kind of alleged professional would not have known that the notion that they were going to play the game on Sunday morning was pure wishful thinking
They should of known that story had a stink to it
![]()
“We were talking to the conference office, the conference office was talking to Fox Sports about it, and there came back an announcement that, yes, we were going to play,” Hug said. “And then all of the sudden we get the other announcement that Akron came by and said, ‘There’s no game, we’re leaving.’ "
So NU announced the cancellation of the game at 10:28”

I find it highly suspicious that they had just enough time to let Scott Frost run out on to the field.......Give the suckers a taste of Frosty and for maybe possible legal and insurance reasons let the ball get kicked off and then shut it down baby and everybody gets paid.

I wondered that myself, but I don't think there's anything dubious about the whole thing. Honestly, we just got screwed by mother nature, and there was literally nothing physically or logistically possible to have done to save the game. I'm sure at a certain point, everybody up top realized we were screwed, and if nothing else happened, at least we'd maybe be able to sneak in the tunnel walk. And that's exactly what happened. There are a lot of people who have been whining and looking for someone to blame when there is simply no one.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sun Sep 02, 2018 5:31 pm I find it highly suspicious that they had just enough time to let Scott Frost run out on to the field.......Give the suckers a taste of Frosty and for maybe possible legal and insurance reasons let the ball get kicked off and then shut it down baby and everybody gets paid.![]()

The first lighting bolt went off within an 8 mile radius of the stadium just seconds after the opening kick off and they stopped the game. I'm not buying it. Isn't the truth more along the lines that they had already seen enough to call the game but they waited to let Scott Frost run out. And then as long as they were going down that road they let the kickoff happen so technically the game had started and everyone could walk away getting paid. No way this passes the stink test. I suspect my theory could be proven if we could get Bill Ranby or Rusty Lord to share some of their data. Good luck though getting the Fake News Weathercasters to touch this with a ten foot pole.

I pretty much knew what was going to happen too. By the time 6:30 came around I looked at the radar and gave it no later than 8 before it was over. Then the small cell that started the delay popped up out of nowhere. I think everybody in the weather world thought we'd be able to play a little ball, not just a kickoff. The weather changes so quickly and is so unpredictable you can't blame anybody for lack of foresight.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sun Sep 02, 2018 11:00 pm I suspect my theory could be proven if we could get Bill Ranby or Rusty Lord to share some of their data. I'm staying solid with my stance. If this happened 50 years ago it would have been no big deal. Yeah the fans in the stadium would have lost out, but everybody else would have missed out on a mere radio call. No big deal. I think most of us take for granted the fact they even televise our scrub games. Shoot, even just 8 years ago there were untelevised games...

Re: Nebraska Football 2018
I don't think there was anything nefarious going on, but there certainly was incompetence. The weather forecast for the better part of a week indicated the potential for rain on Saturday night. As of Wednesday it looked like it may hold off until after the game. However as of Friday night and certainly Saturday morning when the higher accuracy short-range weather models kicked in it was clear they were going to play a quarter at best. The models indicated the second system arriving at 8 to 9 p.m. and lingering until 2 or 3 a.m. (nailed it too). So the "there was literally nothing physically or logistically possible" falls short to me. This wasn't an unexpected event and they didn't start contingency planning until it actually happened. What was the plan when they only got one quarter in? Had they started exploring back-up options for Sunday including lodging for Akron Saturday morning/afternoon, I have a feeling Akron would've been more inclined to stick around.Busguy2010 wrote: Sun Sep 02, 2018 6:44 pm Honestly, we just got screwed by mother nature, and there was literally nothing physically or logistically possible to have done to save the game.
That is probably the least likely scenario for a couple of reasons. If Nebraska ends up playing a game December 1st, it will likely be because they need a 6th win to be bowl eligible. Akron is an easier win than Iowa State. The other reason is Nebraska hasn't refunded ticket holders yet and is telling them to hold onto the tickets. Nebraska especially and Iowa State to a lesser extent both have an incentive to play home games to retain the money from the missed game. A neutral site game at Arrowhead isn't going to come close to offsetting the lost income from Akron if Nebraska gets into a situation where they refund the tickets.Coyote wrote: Sun Sep 02, 2018 7:30 pm Rumor has it that Nebraska is talking to Iowa St. about a possible matchup, who had their SDSU game postponed...

I think in order of likelihood the scenarios are:
1) Akron December 1st (if needed for bowl eligibility)
2) No 12th game at all
3) Liberty on 10/27 (Nebraska's bye week). Liberty plays New Mexico State twice this season in a scheduling quirk. If everyone is game Nebraska could play Liberty here and then New Mexico State and Akron have matching bye weeks.
4) Iowa State

Thats all hogwash. The fans will be lucky if they get a free Scott Frost comic book for those NE vs Akron ticket stubs they saved. There will be no extra game added final answer.

Re: Nebraska Football 2018
I'm guessing this year's performance will be an average between Nebraska's dismal performance last year and UCF's phenomenal season. I don't think this will look like "year three" for Scott and staff. The product on the field will look much improved to us, but it'll be frustrating for him. I think we'll do better than projections, but I don't think we'll be outstanding.
That said, I think this upcoming game will be closer than we want to see. We have seen nothing yet to assume Nebraska will be so much better than Colorado. I think it'll be an exciting, hard-fought win for us.
Nebraska 33-30

Nebraska is talking out loud now about having another game to make up for the rained out Akron game. I think they are just fluffing the fans. Truth be known more then a few fans are not happy about the shim sham job that got pulled on them Saturday night and they are complaining about it. This leads the big shots at Nebraska to decide to calm things down a bit by floating the idea that there might be a game a couple of months from now. Then 2 months from now when everyone has cooled off and forgot about Akron they pull the rug back out from under everyone and say "Sorry we just could not work out the logistics of it!"

2 fumbles on two drives, penalties, and poor defense. Seen this before somewhere.
They needed that Akron game, kind of a trial by fire now with this one. At least The New Martinez has wheels though when he hangs on to the ball.
Edit: Looks like they shook off the Riley, and are playing football again.

Lots to like today. But it really felt like a Pelini game: Should have been up two or three TDs, lots of penalties, lots of turnovers, questionable time management, offense and defense never played well at the same time. Nebraska just couldn't get out of their own way. And the Martinez injury might be the worst part of the day.
It's pretty clear Riley didn't have a talent issue though. Offensive and defensive lines were much improved.

Offensive line was beautiful, Martinez stood unthreatened for 4+ seconds on each pass play. Defensive intensity was awesome most of the game. Penalties were a bit much, and special teams was unimpressive, but overall it felt like a breath of fresh air. The wildcard turnovers were what bit 'em.
I'm not surprised nor disappointed. Its basically what I expected, minus the loss. Hopefully Martinez isn't too hurt, and have a ball against Troy. I'll be back on this subject in two weeks

Re: Nebraska Football 2018
I disagree. The defense is weak. Once Colorado was allowed to run up and down the field a couple of times Colorado's confidence was built up and Nebraska was in for a war. The talent level in the defensive backfield may not be able to be fixed any other way then by doing a better job of recruiting in the future. Nebraska needs guys who can cover the pass routes while most of the team is playing the runs and blitzing. We don't have those caliber of guys right now. The offense is clearly 100% improved most significantly due to Tommy Armstrong and Tanner Lee being gone! The only way that Nebraska is going to win games this year is when the offense can score 50 points or more which they are capable of doing.

As far as the defense being weak, I totally disagree. That is the best Nebraska defensive game since 2009. They had 7 sacks, 7!! Colorado has a good QB and he was dropping dimes. That is one of the best QBs we will see all year. Other than the loss I was happy with the game overall. Martinez going down is concerning, but honestly Bunch looked serviceable as far as backups go. The offense looked great in my opinion. 329 yards rushing is very encouraging and 236 yards passing will win us a lot of games. Obviously turnovers were the decider overall. If we could of played Akron last week we would be 2-0.

So much for the cliche about improving in game 2. Lots of poor coaching so far. Frost doesn't sound like he's going to adjust his style so I'm not confident the penalties are going to get fixed. It's hard to be disciplined when you preach aggressiveness; especially telling players to not worry about mistakes.
The story of the game was the OL though. They looked like the line we have seen for years. You can fix the stupid mistakes to some degree. But it's hard to do anything offensively if you can't block. This staff also hasn't had much success recruiting linemen so far.

I said I wasn't going to comment on this thread until the Michigan game, because I thought for sure there would be nothing much to talk about this week, just an easy Husker win... But here I am, talking about how they lost... Don't really know what to think of it, also didn't watch the game, but I heard it was p1ss poor in all facets. If they can't beat Troy, I have a tough time believing they'll beat anybody left on the schedule.jessep28 wrote: Sat Sep 15, 2018 6:11 pm Well, I guess it was another "at least you tried" game for the Huskers.

Re: Nebraska Football 2018
So, given this 0-2 start, do you feel the new coaching staff should be fired? Given the 0-2 start, you state the obvious..mrsticka wrote: Sat Sep 15, 2018 10:00 pm Nebraska is 0-2 for the first time since 1957. Even Bill Callahan (as bad as he was) never did that.
What is your solution?..
Understand, I’m not attacking you.. But when you submit a post such as this, I expect more substance. How about your detailed opinion on the current state of Huskers football after 2 games under Scott Frost.. And just stating they’re 0-2 and they stink is not enough detail..

Um.. Remember, Troy was 11-2 last year and NO slouch. They’re a talented college football team. To say if the Huskers cant beat Troy, they cant beat anyone left on their schedule.. is an immense overreaction in my opinion...Busguy2010 wrote: Sat Sep 15, 2018 8:07 pmI said I wasn't going to comment on this thread until the Michigan game, because I thought for sure there would be nothing much to talk about this week, just an easy Husker win...
