Creighton Basketball 2018-2019

Post by Coyote »

Next year's team should again look interesting.
Marcus Foster is gone, but will Khyri come back to show off his offensive skills?
The last mock draft I saw he was not a first round pick.
Will newcomer PG Marcus Zegarowski live up to his expectations.
Aussie Sam Froling joins Epperson and Krempilj in the frontcourt.
Looks like it could be another team with a lot of expectations.

Thomas comes back and you have a centerpiece to focus the team around, they are a borderline Top 25 team with him again next year IMO. Without him and this team is really young, but pretty skilled and talented. Probably on the bubble. I imagine all 3 freshman coming in will play substantial mins again which means 6 of the rotation guys will be true Sophs or Frosh.

If Kyhri comes back, I agree, the Jays are a borderline Top 25 team. Without him, they are still a good team, and probably a year away from a great team.

Don't know what the team will look like next season, but I know one thing. It will end in utter disappointment.

Reports: CU assistant Darian DeVries likely to be named Drake's head coach

Jon Nyatawa / World-Herald staff writer wrote:DeVries, one of the longest tenured assistants in the country, joined the Jays as a graduate manager in 1998. He was promoted to assistant coach in 2001 and was retained in that same position when coach Greg McDermott got hired in 2010.

That could be a big blow to Creighton. From what I have heard DeVries is a good recruiter. Thankfully with Creighton's caliber of play (in the regular season) and higher profile due to being in the Big East, I am sure that this position could be filled quickly.

Amazing to have an assistant that long through two different coaches. Creighton is a good job and Mac knows plenty of people in the industry. Should be easy to find another good assistant like they did last year.

Paul Lusk Named Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

Image
Former Missouri State men's basketball head coach Paul Lusk has been named an assistant coach at Creighton University, Bluejay head coach Greg McDermott announced on Tuesday, April 3rd.

He came to Missouri State after seven seasons as an assistant coach and associate head coach at Purdue. During his tenure on the Purdue coaching staff, Lusk helped guide the Boilermakers to five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances with a collective 129-45 ledger during that span.

In 2010 Lusk was named by FoxSports.com as one of the nation's top 25 high-major assistant coaches. In April 2011, Lusk was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame.

Ronnie Harrell decided to transfer to Denver to be coached by his cousin. He will be a graduate transfer and immediately eligible. It is going to be hard to replace on of the better rebounders on the team. He was also Creighton's hustle man. His shooting is really nothing to be desired, so there is one weakness that whoever takes over for Ronnie can improve on.

Recruiting report: Creighton basketball showing interest in Lincoln East's Sam Griesel

The 6-foot-5, 193-pound senior was a first-team All-Nebraska selection and averaged 17.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.

He initially chose South Dakota over scholarship offers from UNO, North Dakota State and Drake.

With Taz throwing his hat into the NBA draft.. It would appear expectations for the upcoming Bluejays season will hit a low mark..

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing imo...

It will be interesting to see who they fill the empty 3 scholarships with.

Like Cowboy mentioned, I think expectations heading into the season might be the lowest that they have been in a long time, which could be a good thing. The past few years expectations were so high and it puts a lot of pressure on the guys. Hopefully this year they can just go out and play loose and don't have one of those late season swoons. Even with a down season, it still shouldn't be as bad as the 2014-15 season.

Rumor is that Creighton will host Ohio St in the Gavitt games this year.

Should be a good year for the schedule:

vs Gonzaga
vs Ohio St
@ Nebraska
@ Oklahoma

Hopefully some of the young guys can really step up their game and get Creighton to a respectable level.

Creighton secured a transfer from SE MO St this past weekend. Denzel Mahoney. He will sit out 2018-19 due to trans rules and have 2 years to play.

He averaged 19.3 pts and 5 rebs a game last year. He scored 23 against K State. Also had a career-high 36 last season as well.

I saw this and I’m glad to hear of it. It’s too bad he has to sit out a year because the Jays could use his services this season...

Yes, I agree. It would have beneficial to get one of the grad transfers who would be eligible immediately. Maybe one of the current guys can really step up their game. It is going to be needed. Most believe that Mitch Ballock will probably be the leading scorer this coming year.

Creighton landed a grad transfer from Rice in Connor Cashaw. He led Rice in scoring (15.5), and rebounding (7.1) and assists (3.2). He is 6'5" and 200 lbs. Should give the Jays some size at the guard spot.

The Jays just offered Omaha Burke graduate Shereef Mitchell. He is going to prep school for a year and will play in 2019 if he accepts the offer. He led Class A with 24.6 ppg last year.

And a top 150 player according to 247Sports if I saw correctly?

Creighton made the court news toda6 and it wasn’t a basketball court

Brian Bowen’s father: Texas, Arizona, Creighton and Oklahoma State made cash offers

Bowen Sr. said Christian Dawkins, an aspiring NBA agent, told him that Texas offered an undisclosed amount, through an assistant coach, to help with housing. Bowen said he also heard from Dawkins that Arizona was offering $50,000, to be delivered by an assistant coach; Creighton, $100,000; and Oklahoma State, $150,000, along with additional help buying a car and home in the area.

If they did offer, by golly couldn't they have gone to at least $200k?!

I question Creighton's commitment to Basketball

I don't doubt the source at all, everything has been exposed he has no reason to lie. With that said, everybody in the NCAA is cheating this is not isolated to Creighton or any of the other schools cited.

The $100K was visible, the other $200K would likely have been the "lucrative job offer"?
