Interesting move. Having just read this, I would assume some or part of the morning broadcast team will handle this Noon newscast?...Mr.Nuke wrote: Mon Sep 03, 2018 11:27 pm KETV is getting back in the mid-day news game with a noon broadcast starting next week.

I watched their 11am broadcast regularly when I was on graveyard shifts. Was not happy when it was axed for some talk show that didn't pan out.Mr.Nuke wrote: Mon Sep 03, 2018 11:27 pm KETV is getting back in the mid-day news game with a noon broadcast starting next week.

Playing devil's advocate, I might question if they would have enough potential eyeballs in this market to make such a broadcast worthwhile.bbinks wrote: Wed Sep 05, 2018 2:39 amI watched their 11am broadcast regularly when I was on graveyard shifts. Maybe Laurann? She's done WX before, both at previous stops and at 7. Way better than Sheerwood, to name one. If not her, Molly Bernard, who's woefully underutilized.

I watched today, as I'm on vacation. Got the alert on my phone. Seemed to go well. No production glitches like you'd see on KMTV or WOWT.

Who did Channel 6 end of replacing Malorie Maddox with? I can't remember seeing any big push on the new anchor.

I haven't made a point to watch, but...nobody, really. They tried Jessica Gill but she bailed. I haven't seen Anastasia Champ but really she would have been the next one up.Greg S wrote: Tue Sep 11, 2018 9:28 am Who did Channel 6 end of replacing Malorie Maddox with? I really think that Gray/6 doesn't care one way or the other. Thye have Mastre doing Sunday nights, for crying out loud. He's woefully underutilized in that role.

Yeah, from what I understand as of now, the “Big 6” has yet to find a replacement for Maddox..
Perhaps they never will. And considering the trajectory that station has been taking for the past 20 plus years (continually slipping in quality since the mid 90’s), it wouldn’t surprise me a bit...

You know what's amazing? Charlie Van Dyke is STILL the voiceover for WOWT after 25+ years. But I can't help but notice in recent years, his voice has been sounding kind of weak. He's getting old.

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
Reports today of that kid getting killed Wednesday night at a Lincoln Pumpkin Patch are horrible. That is a tough way to go even if you are almost too young to know whats going on. I was watching the 11:30 AM news on channel 6 Wednesday and Trusty Weatherman Rusty Lord actually said to not be fooled by the nice weather and get caught out at one of those pumpkin patches when the storms come in around 6 or 7pm. Those blow up balloons are a disaster waiting to happen if the weather is not nice. Something tells me they will be suing that Pumpkin Patch Park into the dirt in a year or two. The parents have started a go fund me account for the expenses. Come on people life insurance on a child is cheap.

Two points of agreement:
Stay out of bounce houses if the weather is iffy.
Life insurance to cover the cost of death of a child means a term policy for 10-15,000. Even for middle aged adults, that isn’t much in terms of premiums. A term policy for a kid, or even a whole life policy for a kid is rarely more than a few hundred in total premiums.

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
A term life policy does not make much sense for a kid imo. Especially if that kid is less than 10 years old. Sure it’s cheaper than permanent life insurance (Whole or Universal).. But most people forget to convert the policy before the term runs out.. Now a permanent life insurance (Whole or Universal) makes great sense for a kid for several reasons..the biggest being it locks in the monthly premium at a low $ and the length, if managed properly, will last the insured until they reach 100+ years (the rest of their life)..bigredmed1 wrote: Sat Oct 06, 2018 8:33 am A term policy for a kid, or even a whole life policy for a kid is rarely more than a few hundred in total premiums.
The biggest problem with life insurance (and insurance in general), is people purchase a policy and don’t take the time to understand how it functions. It should be MANDATORY for people to read their policy contracts..
Anyway, pardon the Omaha media talk interruption

If they can afford to waste 100 bucks on taking the family to a pumpkin patch but cant afford a cheap life insurance policy on the kid then their priorities are not in order. Worse yet they are just being stupid. How many Gerber Ads for 10,000 life Insurance on a child for less then 10 dollars a month do they have to see before it clicks in their head that it might be a good idea to pick one of those policies up.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Oct 06, 2018 3:31 pm [

One bad assumption was made here that is often made on these forums. You assumed they could afford these tickets. Perhaps they were given the tickets by someone who could afford it. Perhaps these tickets were attained at a deep discount, as often happens when organizations sell tickets to elementary schools to distribute to those less fortunate. Never, EVER assume that you have the right to comment on something when you know NOTHING about those involved. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt today.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Sat Oct 06, 2018 5:08 pmIf they can afford to waste 100 bucks on taking the family to a pumpkin patch but cant afford a cheap life insurance policy on the kid then their priorities are not in order. Another bad assumption is that this is a $100 event for a family of four to get in. This is a much smaller pumpkin patch than say Vala's. It is open three days a week for six weeks and the admision is $11 / person and includes all activities. Spending less than $50 and buying insurance are not an either or thing and should not be compared as such.SoPo wrote: Sun Oct 07, 2018 3:15 pmOne bad assumption was made here that is often made on these forums. Re: Omaha Local News Channels
As much as I'd rather not wade into the conversation I have to suggest that parents purchase a $10,000 whole life policy on their kids. The cash value grows and when the kids become adults they can take over the policies. They can use dividends to purchase more insurance. They can buy more coverage outright. It's a forced savings account.
I bought my first life insurance policy at 22. I also took over a policy that my father bought when I was around 12. I now have well over $1,000,000 in life insurance. By the way, that policy I bought at 22 cost $50 a month. The next year I told the agent I wanted to up the ante to $100 a month and asked him to see what that would buy. I didn't really miss the cash & listen carefully. It's a lot easier to buy life insurance when you're in your 20s than in your 60s. If you buy it when you don't need it you'll have it when you (or your family) do. In addition, when you get older you could possibly cash out a policy or take a loan against it to buy a house, send a kid to college, etc.
I know, I sound like an agent but the bottom line is that people just don't plan. Life's a marathon, not a sprint.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program, already in progress....

Re: Omaha Local News Channels
Life insurance is a replacement for lost income, not an investment. For investment purposes, you're better off putting the money into a 401k, IRA, or just straight investing in index funds.

First thing I thought of was the DUKW capsizing on Lake of the Ozarks. Yeah, a lot of lawyers gonna get paid.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: Fri Oct 05, 2018 6:45 pm Reports today of that kid getting killed Wednesday night at a Lincoln Pumpkin Patch are horrible.

In this context, we get insurance to cover the burial costs. If you can get enough saved, that is great. But most people can't. When you consider the highest mortality rates are in the neonatal period, you would need to basically have the cash on hand.jessep28 wrote: Mon Oct 08, 2018 10:17 am Life insurance is a replacement for lost income, not an investment.
