I think Alamo going in here has the potential to spur MTC to redevelop itself over the next 2-3 years after years of disappointing lack of growth to become destination for entertainment. I see this as a no brainer for Alamo. They pretty much take over a turn-key business with a very minimal upfront cost (as compared to building new) and suspect a better lease than what the original theater had.

Thanks for posting the website verbage here. It is a bear trying to read their site. Anyway, sounds like a good addition to Midtown Crossing and I hope will do well there. Anything to bring people to MC will be helpful. Has there been an event space in MC in the past?

I think the two colors they chose were Cream and Crème.

I don't remember which article I read about it, but the classes are moving to the restaurant, apparently there was some remodeling to allow this.

Midtown Alamo Drafthouse is having a soft opening/staff training week starting on March 1-7. No major new release until Captain Marvel on the 7th but the line up is not too bad (Avengers: Infinity War and the newest mission impossible along with Big Trouble in Little China, Jurassic Park ,Dune and 2001). 25% off of food orders too.

Has anyone noticed there have been a few more recent "goings" at MTC. I noticed the GNC closed. A while back Boomer 1490 moved out of their bay as well. I'd say both of these would be no big loss if you're trying to rebrand that development. I'd like to see something better go into both of those bays.

There may be another one too, but I can't tell. Still so many empty bays down the main strip.

Yeah, Della Costa is a goner, per an OWH article. I am hoping that with Alamo Drafthouse we will see some more activity in MC, maybe see new tenants for these empty bays. I feel like MC should complement Blackstone in being primarily retail, maybe high-end national brands, with Blackstone being the food/drink/more locally based business district. Additionally, I am interested to see how the Blackstone Hotel renovation, MoO HQ plans, and Kiewit move affects the area. I hope we see some movement on Turner Park East, hopefully it brings more people to frequent this business strip throughout the day.

Yeah, the Blackstone remodel and apartments to the north across Farnam should certainly bode well for MoC.

I saw on KETV news last night that The Afternoon at Midtown Crossing is closing permanently when their lease is up on 1/31/2020. No plans to relocate and no desire to sell the business. The owner is in her 90s.

Sad news. It will be missed. That store has always been around for as long as I can remember, and is one of a kind. I never went to the Midtown store, but did go to the Westroads store every year, it seems. Too bad they didn't try selling it to someone with the same skill setting up and continuing a truly unique store. Maybe they did try to sell it, who knows. Retail is tough business to be in now.

I am also saddened of the passing of this most original, eclectic shop. I was in it before Christmas, just before they closed for the night, and made a note to myself to come back when there was more time to shop. And we even found an old gift card. We may have missed our opportunity to shop there with this announcement, as we are gone until the end of January.

I never went to the Midtown crossing store even once. I had gone to the Westroads store many times and always was impressed with its creative and unusual items. The Gal that owns it is in her 90’s and I can’t blame her for wanting a little “me time”. The store was an Omaha gem.

I would have to assume Alamo in Midtown is struggling. I'm often getting Facebook and email notifications stating specials for "midtown location only" including discounted food items at that location all January. A food loyalty card is also being introduced, but for Midtown only.

I want this to succeed as that location is not good for much other than a movie theater. If Alamo doesn't work out there, it's going to be a huge mess for Midtown for years.

So, for its tenth birthday, MC gets a report of how well it has done. I wish we could see the report that Goss did for Mutual, but the numbers reported by OWH are all fairly positive. What I found interesting is that although the project has been visibly struggling on the retail end when it comes to turn over and occupied bays, OWH article does not mention that at all. I hope that was part of the report. The residential side seems to be doing pretty good. The apartments are nearly full, according to CIP, the group that purchased them recently. Though, only 80% of the condos have been sold so far, which seems low considering how long they have been marketed. That can't be a good indicator for future condo projects in the metro, right?

I just think people in Omaha perceive single family homes to be a better investment. Condos bring with them lot of unknowns, will the HOA fees keep rising will it be difficult to sell ?. Most Omaha homeowners feel they can sell their houses in a reasonably fast timeframe, in some cases weeks. With Omaha condos you can’t always say that. I think the fact that very few new condos have been built in Omaha in the past 10 years supports this theory.

I agree that in Omaha single family homes, and apartment units, are much more common than condos. It depends on the city. That won’t be the case in large cities, where virtually no one owns a house. And that’s true in some smaller cities as well. The number of condo units constructed annually in Puerto Vallarta is probably 20 times higher than the number of single family homes.

In addition to utilities, and HOA fees, do you also have to pay property taxes on a condo? Same tax rate as a house?
What other recurring fees are there?
