Bill Randby was showing the long range models last night at 5pm. Several snow chances over the next 7 days with total accumulations in the 6" to 12" range.

So, Saturday sounding like the worst one yet. Another big snow, but add in pretty major wind.

Still 48 hours away but the last 3 runs of both the North American and the GFS models have basically dropped the snow to a dusting. The latest run of the north american is showing a decent amount of ice.

The NWS update said 0.05 inches of ice and variable snow fall. Though they issued this forecast at 1148 today.

I'm kinda glad you are all getting snow, because we've nothing but snow, snow, snow here -- with plenty of California drivers that are not used to snow. (I guess it is cold & snowy this year in much of the country.) Everyone take it slow & drive safe -- of course.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

If we get a good slow melt, we should avoid flooding and avoid too much mud for calving season or field work before planting season.

That would be good for the farmers. I hope it works out that way... (Talking about flooding in Nebraska, the other day, I was actually looking at aerials I took of Omaha and the flooded Missouri River back in 2010-ish, when I was flying into Eppley one time. It's shocking how wide that river was -- north of town, especially.) I actually like the snow, but it affects my exercise routine. It's hard to jog in snow, and on icy streets -- of course. Yet, it doesn't ultimately stop me. Why would I let a little weather stop me from having "______ of steel?" Joking -- kinda. (I watched a recent movie with Kevin Bacon, where he jogged a lot, and that aging actor was still as thin as he was a young man -- if not thinner. True inspiration.)

The NAM has been coming back North. If it continues that trend, Omaha is back in the heavier snowfall. The 3rd major model the European, suggests a greater potential than the NAM or the GFS right now for major snow. We'll see what happens over the next few runs.

This storm has been crazy. I;m sure most meteorologists were pulling their hair out. The forecast has been all over the map and changed every 5 min.

Looks like the blizzard is here now! My lighting tracker app picked up 5 strikes in the 72nd / Crown Point vicinity around 4:20 pm. I didn’t hear any thunder though. This could get interesting.

Update: just had two more strikes near the same location around 5:20 w/ thunder this time.

Bill Randby just show a list of the top 10 snowiest winters and we are still a few inches shot of making it in to the top 10.

Would guess the same in Gretna and still snowing heave when I left at 5:00 AM

MY Drive to Lincoln was about 1:15 this AM and noting had been touched with a plow on the interstate yet between 5 and 6 AM. Not a jab at the removal crew because it started to accumulate late enough that you could be out earlier and there are a lot of miles to cover. Can't plow what isn't there yet.
