LaCasa Pizza

I'm not a fan of La Casa but I heard they recently started accepting debit/credit cards, so perhaps I'll dislike them less.

The people who seem to love it are the people who love hamburger pizza. There seems to be this pizza subculture in Omaha of hamburger pizza zealots and they love "meat carpet" pizzas like La Casa. Personally, I cannot stand ground beef on a pizza. I'll agree with other users comments that you probably had to be raised on it to love it. Though, I find that true for several old school Omaha establishments.

I do like romano cheese on my pizza, but that's not unique to La Casa (well, perhaps they're one of the few that make it standard). Several pizzerias in town will let you add romano.

I love ground beef on my pizza. I didn't realize it was an Omaha thing until I moved away and realized the rest of the country is all about the sausage. Godfathers opened a few franchises in the DC area in the 80's for a few years before they went belly-up---got my monthly fix then. La Casa is a regular stop for me when I'm in Omaha, but, like Runza, I guess you have to grow up with it. Most of my out-of-town visitors didn't take to it, though

I think it helps if you grew up on La Casa style pizza..Like I did. It’s absolutely my favorite.. Ground beef or otherwise..

But I’ve shared several stories, in this thread in fact, where I suggested La Casa pizza to out of towners..and they’ve came back loving it. To each their own. Love or hate. Ground beef or not...

We’ll have to post our reviews of the new place. The food is pretty consistent. But from what I’ve seen, the ambiance at the new location looks to be totally different than the flagship on 44th and Leavenworth or the La Casa West location near 84th and Center..

I’m certain for both of us, fried ravioli will be on the menu ...

If you dine in, you order at the counter and take a number and wait for it to be called out. The fried ravioli was great as usual as was our hamburger and onion pizza. Good spot. Same ‘ol La Casa’s.. And that’s a good thing...

I believe fried ravioli is an Italian Omaha restaurant staple unique to Omaha.. Kind of like going into an Omaha Italian steakhouse and with your steak dinner, they automatically serve pasta on the side..

It had been at least a year since I had La Casa’s friend ravioli and it was fantastic. I wish I made a double order...

I think it's more known as a St. Louis thing more than an Omaha thing. It's a staple at Italian Restaurants on the Hill and Imo's. I don't think we can take credit for this by a longshot.

I ate there this past weekend and even though it was very busy, we easily found a good table to dine in. They also have an outside table area and we were very tempted to grab a table outside. Overall, I like the location and I like the overall look of the restaurant.. The food, as always, is classic La Casa’s ...

At least they're not closing! I cringe whenever I see a good local place mentioned on a thread title here. Much too often "closing" will be inside.

I grew up eating La Casa Pizza..

If they closed, I'd cry for a week straight.. No joke...

Same here. Very first pizza I ever had was La Casa at the old Venice location. First slice I would estimate to have been in 1965 or 1966. At least that first LaCasa pie I can remember came home in a '64 Impala.

Anyone know what happened to Sam and Rose who ran the Venice location? My first job was there in about '73.

The Restaurant itself closed down and was bulldozed..and a strip mall of businesses have been at the old locale since about 2017..

Don’t know what happened to Sam and Rose..but I’m sure someone on the forum can answer that question…

I do think you had to grow up eating it. I've stopped trying to introduce it to people. I've had a couple of people like it, but I've also heard friends call it anything from "vile", to "lunchroom pizza squares", to "not even pizza as I define it". It's certainly divisive. You either love the Romano Cheese and the unique sauce, or you don't.

The closest thing I can compare it to regionally is Imo's in St. Louis. That's a local staple and many down there love it. I tried it and I didn't enjoy it. The provel cheese they use just isn't something I can enjoy.

I gave it a second chance a couple of years ago, after passing on it for many years. And it's now a hard pass for me. I wouldn't necessarily say "vile", but the romano cheese gives me a strong whiff of bile... so nope. I actually like hamburger pizza, so that's not an objection for me at all. But that cheese smells about as unappetizing as it possibly could be.

And Imo's is pretty awful. Who puts velveeta on pizza, except in an emergency when you are making it yourself and can't get to the store?

You can get mozzarella on la Casa pizza. Still the Romano cheese really stinks. I wonder if there may be a genetic thing like for cilantro. Some people like it and others report that tastes like soap.

Square cut pizza is the correct way to eat pizza.

For years I agreed with the above comments concerning Romano cheese. My eyes saw cheese but my nose smelled vomit. Either my tastes have changed or their cheese mix has evolved more to mozzarella, but I really like the pizza here. As I’ve eaten pizzas in multiple other cities, states and countries none of my Top 10 favorites are in Omaha, but LaCasa pizza always seems to satisfy. I think it’s the crust.

Parmesan and Romano cheese get their vomit smell from butyric acid (which is also present in actual vomit). Hershey chocolate contains some too which is why people who didn't grow up on American chocolate think it tastes like puke. Like most things, some people are more sensitive to it than other people. Myself, I love Romano cheese on my pizza.

Descendants from the original owners, two families now own LaCasa. The LaCasa Pizzaria West Location Family (Vacanti's) owns that location and manages it. They also own 50% of the original location. The original location is 50% owned and managed by their cousins. Currently all the prep for dough, sauce, meat and cheese are prepared by the same people and distributed to each location. So its the same product and they both use the same brand of oven. The LaCasa West owners are opening the LaCasa Pacific Springs location.
