If this was ever going to happen, last year or this year was the best year. Royals are rebuilding. Ned Yost has really but a lot of innings on Salvy's knees, for that reason might be good for Salvy to have a break. Also normally once you've had TJ surgery you are good for many years before you need another.
I love Salvy, this is my way of looking on the bright side.

Salvy definitely needed a break, I don't know the stats but he was really over used. Cam looks like he will take care of the starting, but then who... Viloria? Worthy? Dini? Fernandez? Melendez? Rivero?
I personally hope they can get back Butera back.

Re: 2019 Omaha Storm Chasers / KC Royals
I am quietly hoping for Butera as well. Melendez or Viloria would be interesting if ready. I have high hopes for both. I've head the Royals really credit Pedro Grifol for the young catchers development. They are so high on him he will get a look when Ned decides to step down (love how Ned works with young players and I really hope he stays for a few more years).Coyote wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:52 am Salvy definitely needed a break, I don't know the stats but he was really over used. From what I've seen and read it's just a minor tweak type of deal. He just got cleared to start throwing.

Royals sign catcher Martin Maldonado
He won the 2017 Gold Glove and is considered one of the best pitch-framers in baseball, ranking best in baseball in that category in 2017. He is also effective at nailing base-stealers, with a caught-stealing rate of 48.6% last year, just ahead of Perez to lead all catchers.

Re: 2019 Omaha Storm Chasers / KC Royals
Scoles thinks Omaha could have a pretty good bullpen to start.
The Royals thanks in part to service time considerations will likely open the season with Richard Lovelady, Josh Staumont, Jason Adam, Connor Greene and perhaps Michael Ynoa in their Omaha bullpen. That’s a talented group of hard throwers for a Triple-A bullpen. At times last season, Adam looked like the best of the bunch but he struggled finding feel for his breaking ball once in Kansas City. Another trip to Omaha where he can work with the same major league ball that he will in Kansas City may help him find that feel more consistently.

Royals send down pitchers, trim spring training roster to 59
The Royals optioned pitchers Arnaldo Hernandez, Ben Lively and Jake Newberry to Omaha (AAA) and assigned pitchers Jake Kalish and Andres Machado to minor league camp.

Re: 2019 Omaha Storm Chasers / KC Royals
1 prospect to watch on every team in 2019
Royals: Richard Lovelady, LHP
As we've mentioned numerous times on royals.com, Lovelady, 23, doesn't have to go on the 40-man roster until next fall. But Lovelady, who posted a 2.47 ERA last year at Triple-A Omaha with nine saves, may force the Royals' hand this spring. And there certainly are plenty of open spots in the bullpen for Lovelady to grab, so a lot of eyes are on him as the spring progresses. He has swing-and-miss stuff and a bulldog mentality, and general manager Dayton Moore brought his name up at the team's FanFest as one of those pitchers who could be the next Greg Holland, Kelvin Herrera or Wade Davis. Lovelady just needs an opportunity.

I think it was between him and Junis. Duffy might miss the first week of the season. He could possibly get a start for Omaha before he gets to KC.

Re: 2019 Omaha Storm Chasers / KC Royals
Is it too soon to start to wonder if the field will be ready in 12 days for the Storm Chasers / Royals exhibition game? Much like haymarket in Lincoln they have not been able to do ANYTHING to the fields yet. I know it is 12 days yet but the one ten day forecast I looked at has it warmer but multiple days with a reasonable chance of rain. If there is not some growing grass I wonder how much risk they'll take with a surface having poor footing with all the $$$$ invested on the players.

Re: 2019 Omaha Storm Chasers / KC Royals
Martie Cordaro was on 1620 last week, didn't sound like a lot of concern on the field.
He also mentioned that he had not heard anything on when ticket sales will go on sale for the Royals Tigers at TD. Will be interesting how many tickets are left for general public. CWS, Chasers and Royals all had presales.

CWS presale starts in literally 5 mins according to ticketmaster and lasts for a week. You are probably right there wont be much, if anything left after the presale rounds.
I wonder what they are doing in the outfield? GA like the CWS or assigned seats.

Maybe I'm in their target demographic now, but I've been seeing a lot of ads for season ticket packages on Facebook as of late. I don't recall marketing being that aggressive in previous seasons.

I agree. I remember when the CWS had a years long wait for season tickets. I think they are readily available now.

I was on the wait list for over ten years. A year or two ago they sold a bunch of the GA seating as assigned season tickets to the waiting list and did away with the list. Because of where they were at I didn't buy but did get all the correspondents.Greg S wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2019 3:21 pmjessep28 wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2019 3:18 pm Maybe I'm in their target demographic now, but I've been seeing a lot of ads for season ticket packages on Facebook as of late. Honestly I wish it wasn't a joke. That name is a lot funnier, and better, than any of the other alternative names they have had. I'd buy that gear.

"Omaha Potholes Night" Set For April 24
A deep and impactful response to an April Fools' Day prank has paved the way for an exciting night at Werner Park, as the Omaha Storm Chasers have announced "Omaha Potholes Night" for Wednesday, April 24. After epically pranking sports business reporter Darren Rovell, the Storm Chasers organization also wishes to extend a special invitation to the Senior Executive Producer for The Action Network to attend Omaha Potholes Night and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Whit Merrifield now has a 29 games hitting streak, the most for an AL hitter since 2000, and one short of the KC record.

I'd also like to see the Royals call up Nicky Lopez soon. Mioght be time to cut ties with Chris Owings.
